YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team will host the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championships this weekend March 4-6, at Jones Natatorium in Ypsilanti, Mich.
The three-day, seven-team championship meet returns to campus sites following a two-year hiatus and is the first to be hosted by EMU since 2004. The University at Buffalo was the last school to host the meet back in 2007, as the MAC combined with the Sun Belt Conference in 2008 and 2009 in Nashville, Tenn.
This year's meet includes Ball State University, the University at Buffalo, EMU and Miami University along with three new affiliate members: the University of Evansville, Missouri State University and Southern Illinois University. The trio joins the MAC following a stint in the Sun Belt Conference and will be a part of the league through at least the 2015 school year.
Eastern Michigan enters this year's championship as the defending MAC Champions after capturing its third consecutive title and 28th overall in program history in 2009, accumulating a school record 1,046.5 points. Runner-up finisher, Buffalo, tallied 639.5 points followed by Miami (588) and Ball State (267).
Action begins Thursday with prelims from 12-2 p.m. and finals beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, prelims will go from 12-2 p.m. with finals beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday's action will commence with prelims from 12-2 p.m. while the first heat of the 1,650 free finals will start at 5 p.m. and the rest of the day's finals beginning at 7 p.m.
