MAC Announces Gymnast and Specialist of the Week

Gymnast of the Week
Nicole Allen, Ball State, So., Buford, Ga./Hebron Christian Academy
Nicole Allen claimed the individual title in the all-around and the floor, while posting a second place finish on the bars and a third on the vault.  Allen tied her career high with a 9.875 on the floor and managed a career best 9.725 on the bars.  Allen helped Ball State to a 192.625 to 191.075 win at Eastern Michigan.

Specialist of the Week
Lindsay Runyan, Kent State, So., Maineville, Ohio/Ursuline
Runyan tied for first place on the uneven bars with a career-high 9.925 score as the No. 11 Kent State gymnastics team placed second with a team point total of 194.675 Saturday (Jan. 29) in a quad meet hosted by Michigan at Crisler Arena. Runyan's point total is tied for the sixth-best in Kent State history on the uneven bars and is currently both the squad's and Mid-American Conference's top score on the uneven bars in 2011. She is also ranked among the top 10 in the nation on the uneven bars.

Brittney Emmons, Ball State, Jr., Pace, Fla./Tate
Brittney Emmons won the individual championship on the vault and bars.  Emmons posted a 9.725 to win the vault and a season high 9.750 to win the bars.

Monica Eaton, Bowling Green, So., Kearney, Mo./Kearney
Bowling Green's Monica Eaton posted season-bests on bars and floor this past weekend versus Western Michigan and Ohio State. The sophomore finished third on the bars with a score of 9.750 and seventh on the floor with a score of 9.675.

Emily Heinz, Central Michigan, Fr., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs
Heinz helped CMU score a 195.750 to defeat Northern Illinois, its best home team score since 2005 and the top team score in the MAC this year. The true freshman scored career highs on beam and floor, winning beam with a 9.850.  She also took fifth on floor with a 9.750.

Brittany Petzold, Central Michigan, Fr., Shelby Township, Mich./Eisenhower
Petzold led Central Michigan to a 195.750, its best home team score since 2005 and the top team score in the MAC this year.  The true freshman scored career highs in all five events including a 39.150 in the all-around.  She also tallied a 9.875 on bars to win the event and had a 9.800 on floor for a third place finish.  Petzold placed second in the all-around behind teammate Kristin Teubner as CMU defeated Northern Illinois to move to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the MAC.

Nikole Viltz, Eastern Michigan, Sr., Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Carmel
Senior Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Carmel) set the pace for the Green and White finishing second on the vault and balance beam posting scores of 9.675 and 9.960 respectively. Viltz also posted an 8.300 on the floor exercise.

Christine Abou-Mitri, Kent State, Sr., Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights
Abou-Mitri totaled her best finish in the all-around this season, finishing third with 38.925 points as the No. 11 Kent State gymnastics team placed second with a team point total of 194.675 Saturday (Jan. 29) in a quad meet hosted by Michigan at Crisler Arena. She tied for fifth on the balance beam with a 9.750, tied for seventh on the floor exercise with a 9.775 and took eighth on the uneven bars with a 9.825. All three event scores were season bests for Abou-Mitri.

Caitlin Sullivan, Western Michigan, So., Elkhart, Ind. (Alabama)/Elkhart Central
Sophomore Caitlin Sullivan led Western Michigan to its first ever MAC road victory at Bowling Green Sunday, as WMU outscored the Falcons, 192.650 to 190.400. Sullivan tallied season-best scores of 9.800 on vault and 9.825 on beam, which was also a team season high. She finished second in both events, behind a member of Ohio State's squad, which also participated in the three-team meet.
