MAC Wrestler of the Week
Filiberto Colon, Eastern Michigan-Junior, Belleville, N.J. (Rider University)
Eastern Michigan junior Filiberto Colon recorded three bonus point victories over the weekend, tallying two wins by fall and another by major decision at the 2011 Eastern Duals last Saturday, Jan. 29. Colon came away with a 12-3 major decision win over Matt Raysin of Oakland en route to Eastern Michigan's 48-0 shutout win over the Golden Grizzlies. His second and third bouts, each resulting in pins, came in a combined time of 52 seconds with his fastest being in 25 seconds. Eastern Michigan claimed a 40-9 dual win over SIU-Edwardsville before overcoming Tiffin by a score of 39-6. Colon leads the Eagles with 17 wins and 13 pins on the season.
Desi Green, Buffalo-Junior, Henrietta, N.Y. (Rush-Henrietta High School)
Buffalo junior Desi Green defeated Darrin Boing of Ohio 10-3 in the Bulls' 16-15 loss at Ohio Saturday night. The Henrietta, NY native is now 8-3 in dual meets this season and leads the team with 39 takedowns. With the win over Boing, Green is now 7-1 for his career in conference duals.
Scotti Sentes, Central Michigan-Junior, Fort Myers, Fla. (Riverdale High School)
Central Michigan junior Scotti Sentes, ranked 11th nationally at 133 pounds, improved to 23-6 overall with a 4-0 decision over No. 12-ranked Kyle Hutter (Old Dominion) in the Chippewas' 18-16 win on Sunday. Sentes scored the match's only takedown and built a riding time advantage of 2:22 in the victory. He leads the Chippewas in overall victories and is tied for second in dual victories (9-3).
Marcel Clopton, Kent State-Junior, Shaker Heights, Ohio (Shaker Heights High School)
Kent State junior Marcel Clopton helped the Golden Flashes to a 44-6 victory over Clarion last week with a 3-2 win over Anthony White. Clopton scored an opening period takedown and never trailed White, who carried a record of 17-8 heading into the match. White had defeated Clopton 2-1 earlier in the season. In this week's WrestlingReport.com rankings, Clopton is No. 31 at 149 pounds.
Tristen DeShazer, Northern Illinois-Senior, Wichita, Kan. (West High School)
Northern Illinois senior Tristen DeShazer improved to 12-8 on the season after posting his second-straight victory by pin fall defeating Northern Iowa's Joey Lazor in 48 seconds at 141 in Northern Illinois 23-15 setback to Northern Iowa Friday night. Lazor came into the match on a tear, winning seven of his last eight bouts. It was DeShazer's seventh pin fall victory of the season and the 31st of his career.
Erik Schuth, Ohio-Senior, Spencerport, N.Y. (Brockport High School)
Ohio senior Erik Schuth had the most impressive performances for the Bobcats (7-4, 2-0 MAC) this week, picking up a pair of victories against opponents from Buffalo and 10th-ranked American. Needing a victory to keep the squad alive for the dual win over the Bulls, the 16th-ranked Schuth won a 10-6 decision over John Peters. The following day, Schuth downed 19th-ranked Daniel Mitchell of American with a 7-5 decision.
