Gymnast of the Week

Katie Simon, Central Michigan, Jr., Bistol, Wis.

Simon tallied four event titles to record a season-high 39.300 in the all-around. She won vault (9.825), bars (9.850) and floor (9.850 while taking second on beam (9.775). She also matched her career-high on bars and was just .075 from her career best in the all-around. She helped the Chippewas to a season-high 194.100 as CMU defeated Western Michigan last weekend.


Specialist of the Week

Natalie Blum, Northern Illinois, Jr., Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township

Blum achieved career bests in the vault and uneven bars while tying her career high on the floor exercise. Her 9.800 on bars tied for first in the meet and she took second on vault behind teammate Holly Reichard. Her floor score earned a tie for 3rd place as NIU defeated EMU in DeKalb.



Gymnast of the Week Nominees

Dawn Christman, Bowling Green, Fr., Pottstown, Pennsylvania

Freshman Dawn Christman stepped up big for the Falcons this weekend at Illinois State posting two top-three performances for the first time in her career, tying for second on floor and third on vault. She landed a 9.725 on the vault for a third place finish, just shy of her career best. Christman also had a strong performance on floor as she tied for a second place finish with a career high 9.675, over four tenths better than her previous best. Her second place finish was less than a tenth behind the event winner.


Erin Grigg, Eastern Michigan, Jr., North Bay, Ontario / Widdifield

Coming off a solid performance last weekend at Western Michigan, junior gymnast Erin Grigg followed it up with impressive marks against the Huskies, recording a season-best all-around score of 39.075, including a 9.750 mark on the vault, a 9.725 on the balance beam, a 9.800 in the floor exercise, and a 9.800 on the bars, tying NIU’s Natalie Blum and Holly Reichard for first place.


Christina Lenny, Kent State, So., Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights

In a dual meet with Ball State (1/23), Lenny won the all-around with a personal-best total of 39.350 points as the Golden Flashes defeated the Cardinals 194.575 to 190.700. Her all-around total ties her for eighth on the Kent State all-time list. Lenny tied for first on vault with teammate Lydia Barrett with a score of 9.900. She also won on beam with a score of 9.875. She placed second, to teammate Laci Hendress, on floor with a score of 9.825. She currently ranks second in the Mid-American Conference on vault and third in the all-around. Her vault RQS (9.850) ranks seventh regionally and 26th nationally.


Holly Reichard, Northern Illinois, So., Palatine, Ill./Fremd

Reichard established new career highs on the vault, bars, floor exercise and all-around en route to a 39.350 total (tied for highest in the league this year). She won three events and was second in two others as the Huskies defeated Eastern Michigan Sunday. Her 9.875 score on vault is tied for the 7th best in school history.


Specialist of the Week Nominees

Katie Follett, Bowling Green, Sr., Potomac, Maryland/Winston Churchill

Follett has stuck back-to-back strong performances on the balance beam for the Falcons after posting a season high 9.675 against Illinois State, tying for a second place finish. Follett improved on her season opening performance against Ball State of 9.500 and a third place finish.


Jessica Suder, Central Michigan, Jr., Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley

Suder picked up her second-straight event victory on beam with a 9.800. That helped CMU win its season opener over Western Michigan. Suder also scored a 9.700 on floor.


Brittany Kopp, Kent State, Jr., Cleveland, Ohio/Holy Name

In the meet with Ball State (1/23), Kopp placed third on beam (9.775) and seventh on vault (9.700). She currently ranks 13th on vault and 14th on beam in the Mid-American Conference.
