MAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Zara Harutyunyan ? Akron
Freshman - Yerevan, Armenia (Yerevan Secondary School No. 134)
Harutyunyan was named to the all-tournament team at this past weekend's Johan Kriek Classic, leading the Zips with a combined 7-0 overall record while competing at No. 1 singles and No. 1doubles. Ranked 85th nationally and 11th in the Midwest region (both are the highest by a MAC player), she posted a 4-0 mark in singles competition and went 3-0 in doubles play in competition against South Florida, Missouri, Central Florida and Florida Gulf Coast. Among her four singles victories was a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of USF's Jessica Zok on Sunday. Zok is ranked 121st nationally.
Libby Harrison ? Bowling Green
Senior - Dayton, Ohio (Kettering Fairmont)
Harrison was a perfect 4-0 at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles as the Falcons won a pair of road matches to begin the dual-match season. She won two singles matches by convincing scores at the sixth flight, defeating Duquesne's Alexandria Albano (6-0, 6-1) and Youngstown States Irena Lanc (6-1, 6-1) and lost only three total games in four singles sets. In doubles, she teamed with Stefanie Menoff for an 8-3 win at DU and an 8-2 triumph at. on the year, Harrison has a 9-2 singles record and a 5-6 doubles mark, in her first season as a regular in both lineups.
Brintney Larson ? Miami
Freshman - Peachtree City, Ga.
Larson went 3-0 is singles and 1-2 in doubles in competition versus Purdue (W 5-2), Eastern Illinois (W7-0), and Indiana (L 4-3). Larson played at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles and was a perfect 6-0 in sets in her singles competition. She beat Purdue’s Remi Martin 7-6, 6-3; EIU’s Juliana Frey 6-1, 6-3; and IU’s Lindsey Stuckey 6-3, 6-1.
Ashley Frey ? Toledo
Sophomore - Mentor, Ohio (Mentor)
Frey is 2-0 in singles play so far this spring as well as posting a 2-0 record in doubles play with Nadia Zoubareva. On Saturday, Frey defeated Duquesne's Rachel McGowan 6-0, 6-2 in No. 2 singles and teamed with Zoubareva for a 9-8 (5) victory in No. 2 doubles. On Sunday, Frey played No. 2 singles against Youngstown's Lauren Hankle and won 6-2,6-1. She also was part of the No. 2 doubles winning duo that posted a 8-1 victory.
Jenny Nalepa ? Western Michigan
Freshman - Brighton, Mich. (Brighton)
Nalepa went a perfect 3-0 in her dual match debut against No. 30 Indiana and Eastern Illinois. Nalepa was perfect against the Hoosiers with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles and 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. She followed that with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at No. 2 singles against Eastern Illinois.
