MAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

Jurica Grubisic ? Northern Illinois

Freshman - Sibenik, Croatia (Gimnazija Kraljica Jelena)

In his first-career match at Northern Illinois, Grubisic defeated Michigan State's No. 1 singles player, Alex Forger, in straight-sets (7-5, 6-3) at the Michigan State Indoor Tennis Facility last Saturday (Jan. 17).  Forger is ranked No. 27 in the Midwest Region by the ITA. Grubisic, a transfer from Baylor, played the No. 2 doubles flight, and dropped an 8-6 pro-set decision.  He was one-of three Huskies playing their first-career dual match, a 6-1 team win for the Spartans.

Knot Likitkumchorn - Toledo

Sophomore - Yala, Thailand (Triam Udom Suksa)

Knot Likitkumchorn played No. 3 singles for the Rockets and defeated Waylon Chin (Illinois) 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2) on Saturday and then fell to Indiana's Jonathan Schroeder in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.


Kevin Hayward ? Western Michigan

Senior - Ann Arbor, Mich. (Pioneer)

Kevin Hayward went 5-1 in a trio of matches to open the 2009 season. He was perfect at No. 1 singles with straight-set victories over Wright State and IPFW and a come-from-behind victory over Detroit's Mississippi State transfer Pjorts Necajevs. Hayward also teamed with sophomore Casey Cullen to win at No. 1 doubles against Detroit and No. 2 doubles against IPFW. With his five wins, Hayward moved into a tie for 14th all-time at WMU with 163 career wins.
