Track Athlete of the Week
Eric Alejandro, Eastern Michigan, Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla./Flanagan
Senior Eric Alejandro ran in two individual events and two relays at the 42nd annual Sea Ray Relays. He qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regionals in the 400 meter hurdles for the second week in a row with a time of 52.46 and would have qualified in the 110 hurdles, except that the tailwind was just above (4.1) the allowable (4.0) He finished fifth in both the hurdles against some stiff competition, including two nationally ranked individuals in each event. He was also part of the 4x110-meter shuttle hurdle relay and the 4x400-meter relay.
Field Athlete of the Week
Cadeau Kelley, Akron, Sr., Cleveland, Ohio/John Marshall
Kelley won the long jump with a leap of 24-7 (7-49), which was nearly a foot-and-a-half better than second over teammate Colister Fahie (23-2.50). On Saturday, Kelley won the triple jump with a distance of 46-11.75 (14.32).
Track Nominees
Ezekiel Porter, Buffalo, Rochester, NY/East
Porter won two individual events and was part of a winning relay team at the Miami Invitational. Porter won the 100-meter dash in 10.66 seconds, just two-hundredths of a second off the school record, and won the 200-meter dash in 21.90. He also helped the Bulls to a first-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay in 41.61, running the second of the four legs.
Matt Loiselle, Central Michigan, Sr., Windsor, Ont./Riverside
Finished first in the 5000m with a time of 14:40.55.
John Minen, Kent State, Freshman, Salem, Ohio/Salem
Minen won the men’s 800 meters in 1:55.87.
Patrick Sovacool, Miami, Jr., Lakewood, Ohio/ St. Ignatius
Sovacool has the fastest 800 and 1500 meter times in the MAC this season (800-meters; 1:55.04; first 1500-meters; 3:56.25; first).
Field Nominees
Loic Sebuharara, Buffalo, Vestal, NY/Vestal
At the Miami Invitational, Sebuharara led a strong men¹s horizontal jump contingent with a first-place finish in the triple jump as the Bulls took the top two spots. Sebuharara won the event with a leap of 46-0.75 (14.04m).He also turned in a season-best in the long jump with a leap of 22-5.25 (6.84m) to finish third overall.
Oz Lifshitz, Central Michigan, Fr., Rishon Lezion, Isreal/Avne Ho Hoshon
Placed tenth in the triple jump with a mark of 48-11.
Vinnie Tyle, Eastern Michigan, Fr., Fowlerville, Mich./Fowlerville
Vinnie Tyle competed with the small group of athletes that traveled to the Spartan Invitational. He finished seventh in both the pole vault, clearing 14-07.25, and the javelin, throwing 152-01.
Shamel Smith, Kent State, Sr., Bloomfield, N. J./Bloomfield
Smith won the men’s high jump (6’-10.75”) at the Northeast Ohio Quad on Friday (4/11). Smith’s jump is a regional qualifying mark.
