Kent State Wraps Up 18th MAC Men's Golf Championship

- Led by the top three players, the Kent State men's golf team equaled a Mid-American Conference men's golf record by winning its 18th MAC title with a 22-stroke victory today at the 2010 MAC Championship held at Longaberger Golf Club. The Golden Flashes shot a two-over 290 in Sunday's final round to finish the tournament with a two-under 1150 (296-282-282-290) team score and claim their second straight championship. Kent State juniors Brett Cairns  and John Hahn  shared individual honors.

The duo each carded a three-under 285 with Cairns posting rounds of 75-67-70-73 and Hahn going 76-70-70-69. Its the third time a pair of Kent State teammates have shared MAC medalist honors as they become the 18th and 19th individuals from KSU to win.

Just one stroke back in third place stood sophomore Mackenzie Hughes who went 72-72-70-72 for a two-under 286. The Kent State threesome also finished 1-2-3 last season.

Eastern Michigan was runner up with an 1172 followed by Akron in third with a 1196. Miami (1202), Ohio (1212), Northern Illinois (1213), Toledo (1219), Ball State (1222) and Bowling Green (1232) completed the standings.

Cairns, Hahn and Hughes were named All-Tournament team along with Cam Burke of Eastern Michigan and Jeff Dick of Northern Illinois.

Kent State has won 14 of the last 19 MAC Championships, and is now tied with Ohio for the most men's golf MAC titles.

The Golden Flashes earned the MAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals that take place May 20-22. Pairing will be announce on May 10th at 6:00 pm.
