MAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Nini Sujashvili, Western Michigan - Freshman, Tbilisi, Georgia
Western Michigan freshman Nini Sujashvili went 4-0 this past Saturday, helping Western Michigan post wins over regional foes Illinois-Chicago and Cleveland State. Sujashivili recorded a three-set victory against UIC at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3, and won at No. 2 doubles, 9-7. Her singles points, as well as aid in clinching the doubles point was needed as Western Michigan won the match by a 4-3 margin. Sujashvili came back later in the evening to post a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles against Cleveland State and won at No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
Nikki Chiricosta, Bowling Green - Freshman, Avon Lake, Ohio (Avon Lake High School)
Bowling Green freshman Nikki Chiricosta won at both singles and doubles as the Falcons picked up a road win over Detroit. Chiricosta teamed up with sophomore Mary Hill for an 8-0 victory at the number-three doubles flight and then downed Detroit's Amanda Cornwell in straight sets -- 6-2, 6-3 -- in #2 singles. On the year, Chiricosta has a team-leading total of 36 victories, 20-5 in singles, including an 8-3 mark in dual-match play, and has a 16-8 doubles mark overall.
Chrissy Coffman, Toledo - Freshman, Akron, Ohio (Firestone High School)
Toledo freshman Chrissy Coffman led the Rockets with a perfect weekend of singles. After losing the doubles point in Friday's win over Cleveland State - the seventh straight by the Rockets - Coffman helped lead an impressive comeback in singles play. Coffman lost the first set, but won her second and staved off two match points in the third to win 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Coffman also picked up a singles win in the streak-ending loss to Michigan State on Sunday. The Rocket freshman defeated Michigan State's Lingl 6-3, 6-4 to up her record to a team-leading 16-4 overall mark (9-1 regular season), and she has now won eight singles matches in a row.
