Co-Gymnasts of the Week

Christien Abou-Mitri, Kent State, So., Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights

In a meet with Bowling Green (2/7), Abou-Mitri won the all-around with a total of 39.000 points as the Golden Flashes won the meet 194.550-192.600. She tied Brianne Guy of Bowling Green for the top spot on beam with a score of 9.825. Abou-Mitri currently ranks third in the Mid-American Conference on bars (9.745), fourth in the all-around (38.819), eighth on beam (9.619), 10th on vault (9.730), and 18th on floor (9.635). Her all-around RQS also ranks 12th regionally.


Holly Reichard, Northern Illinois, So., Palatine, Illinois/Palatine Fremd

Reichard claimed three titles in a dual meet with Ball State as she won the all-around, vault and floor competitions as NIU improved to a perfect 3-0 record on the season. Reichard posted a 38.600 all-around total with her top mark a 9.825 on floor exercise.


Specialist of the Week

Lydia Barrett, Kent State, Jr., Rochester, N.Y./Penfield

At a meet with Bowling Green (2/7), Barrett won on vault (9.825) and tied teammate Laci Hendress for the top spot on floor (9.825).




Additional Nominees for Gymnasts of the Week

Kasey Fillmore, Bowling Green, Fr., Danielson, Connecticut/Killingly

Fillmore picked up where she left off last week with another strong performance helping the Falcons score a season best, 192.600. Fillmore finished in the top-three in two of three events she competed in. Fillmore swung her way to her second straight 9.775 and tie for a second place finish on bars, matching her career high she set last weekend. She also matched her career high on beam landing a 9.750 and tying for a third place finish. On floor Fillmore led the Falcons’ line-up with a 9.675 and a seventh place finish.


Katie Simon, Central Michigan, Jr., Bristol, Wis. (Westosha HS)

Simon led CMU to a second-place finish at the State of Michigan Classic, defeating MAC foes Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan. Simon won vault (9.900), took third on bars (9.875) and third in the all-around (38.550). The bar score was a career high for the junior while Simon tied her career best on vault. Also, the bar score is the best in the MAC this year while her vault score ties the MAC-best this year.


Erin Grigg, Eastern Michigan, Jr., North Bay, Ontario / Widdifield

Junior Erin Grigg led the way for the Green and White on the vault with a season-best total of 9.825 in third place and finished with an all-around score of 38.000 in the State of Michigan Classic.


Andrea Perini, Western Michigan, Sr., Sterling Heights, Mich. (Sterling Heights)

Senior Andrea Perini had a good night at the State of Michigan Classic, tying Michigan*s Tatjana Thuener-Rego for fourth place in the all-around with a score of 38.475, while taking on sixth in the vault (9.775) and floor exercise (9.800). Perini*s finish on the vault is a new season high.


Additional Nominees for Specialist of the Week

Amber Brewer, Bowling Green, So., Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont

Amber Brewer led the Falcons and set a new career high on bars with a 9.775, tying for a second place finish. Brewer’s career high on bars helped the Falcons reach a season best team score of 192.600.


Kyla Krygier, Central Michigan, Traverse City, Mich. (Traverse City Central HS)

Krygier set her career high on bars to help CMU to a second place finish at the State of Michigan Classic, beating Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan. Krygier finished fifth overall.


Jennifer Naughton, Northern Illinois, Sr., Smithville, Mo./Smithville

Naughton claimed three second-place finishes in NIU's victory at Ball State despite battling the flu during the week. She came in with a 9.775 mark on the floor exercise while posting a 9.750 on vault and a 9.725 on balance beam.


Keesha Olsen, Western Michigan, Sr., Kansasville, Wis. (Westosha Central)

In her only event, senior Keesha Olsen placed eighth at the State of Michigan Classic, totaling a 9.725 on the uneven bars. The score tied a season high and team season high.
