MAC Announces Gymnasts and Specialists of the Week

Co-Gymnasts of the Week
Marie Case, Kent State
Freshman, Erie, Pa. (Mercyhurst Prep)
Case paced the Kent State attack in the squad's 195.950-194.525 victory Sunday (March 6) in a Mid-American Conference meet at the M.A.C. Center, winning the all-around crown with a combined total of 39.300. She won on the balance beam with a 9.875 and tied for first on the floor exercise with a score of 9.850. Case also tied for third place on the uneven bars with a score of 9.825 and for sixth on the vault with a 9.750. The Golden Flashes hit the road for their final meet of the regular season, traveling to Ypsilanti, Mich., next Saturday (March 12) to battle Eastern Michigan.

Kristine Garbarino, Western Michigan
Senior, Latham, N.Y. (Shaker)
Senior Kristine Garbarino recorded a career high with a 39.100 in the all-around Sunday against Big Ten opponent Illinois. It was the fourth highest all-around in school history. She also had a career high on the vault with a 9.800. Garbarino's previous best in the all-around was a 39.075.

Co-Specialists of the Week
Amber Brewer, Bowling Green
Senior, Kettering, Ohio (Fairmont)
Amber Brewer posted a career-best on bars and was solid on vault helping the Falcons to a season-best 193.800 team score. The senior finished fifth on bars with a 9.825, the ninth-best score in school history. She added a 9.550 on vault.

Lindsay Runyan, Kent State
Sophomore, Maineville, Ohio (Ursuline)
Runyan won the uneven bars courtesy of a 9.925 to help Kent State record a 195.950-194.525 victory over Ball State Sunday in a Mid-American Conference meet at the M.A.C. Center. . She also tied for third on the balance beam with a 9.750. The Golden Flashes hit the road for their final meet of the regular season, traveling to Ypsilanti, Mich., next Saturday (March 12) to battle Eastern Michigan.

Danielle Wishart, Bowling Green
Sophomore, Bethesda, Md. (Holy Cross)
Danielle Wishart posted three season-bests on Friday night, helping the Falcons to a season-best 193.800 team score. The sophomore finished first on vault with a 9.850, fifth on beam with a 9.750 and tied for second on the floor with a 9.850.

Kristina Kurkmilis, Eastern Michigan
Sophomore, Eagleville, Pa. (Methacton)
Kristina Kurkmilis recorded a third place tie earning a 9.650 on the vault, and a ninth place finish posting a 9.025 on the floor exercise for the Eagles Wed. March 2. She had an outstanding performance just three days later earning the top spot on the vault recording a 9.750 and a career-high 9.575 on the floor exercise good for fourth place.

Nikole Viltz, Eastern Michigan
Senior, Hawthorn Woods, Ill. (Carmel)
Nikole Viltz led the Eagles as top performer both Wednesday, March 2, and Saturday, March 5 versus the Air Force Academy. Wednesday Viltz finished first on the vault recording a 9.800 and fourth on the balance beam tallying a 9.675. Viltz also tied for second on the floor exercise posting a 9.625. Saturday she led the Eagles earning a season-high 9.750 on the balance beam recording a first place tie and finished fifth on the floor exercise posting a 9.550.

Ashley Guerra, Northern Illinois

In two meets this week, Ashley Guerra averaged a 9.800 on uneven parallel bars and 9.700 on balance beam as the Huskies took on Illinois-Chicago (March 1) and No. 16 Iowa (March 5) this week. Guerra recorded her season highs on both events - on bars vs. UIC and on beam at Iowa. She tied for first on bars at UIC in her best placing of the week. Versus UIC on beam, there were only four scores higher than Guerra's 9.675 and versus Iowa, there were only three scores better on both bars and beam. Guerra helped lead NIU to a pair of 193-plus team scores, the Huskies' highest scores since the 2009 season.

Holly Reichard, Northern Illinois
Senior, Palatine, Ill. (Fremd)
Holly Reichard was rock solid and red-hot in eight routines for the Huskies during the week's meets versus UIC (March 1) and Iowa (March 5). Versus UIC, Reichard tied her career high score on floor exercise with a 9.850 while narrowly missing her second 39.000 all-around score of the year as she tallied a 38.950. At Iowa, she did post a 39.000 score while earning her season best scores on both bars (9.775) and beam (9.825) and tying her season best on vault (9.750). Reichard owns the Huskies' top scores of the year on three events (vault, beam, floor). For the week, she averaged a 9.7237 on vault, a 9.7125 on bars, a 9.775 on beam and a 9.750 on floor.

Kristen Seidowski, Western Michigan

Freshman Kristen Seidowski had personal bests on both vault and bars at Big Ten opponent Illinois Sunday. She scored a 9.825 on vault and went 9.700 on bars. Her vault score was also a team high and good enough for third.
