Women’s Cross Country MAC Runner of the Week

Kim Lorentz,  Akron, Sophomore, Mayfield, Ohio       

Notre Dame Invitational -- 5K

Time: 17:03    

Lorentz continued her dominance boasting a 17:03 timestamp en route to finishing 14th out of the 186 runners competing. Lorentz, ever one for breaking records achieved the feat again setting a new Akron course time at the Notre Dame golf course where the event is held. The previous time of 17:20 was set by former Zip Beata Rudzinska.

 

Men’s Cross Country MAC Runner of the Week

Josh Karanja, Eastern Michigan, Senior, Ottawa, Canada-Nepean   

Notre Dame Invitational -- 8K

Time: 23:51    

Karanja made his season debut a good one at the Notre Dame Invitational. He finished 10th overall with a career-best time of 23:51 and recorded the best finish by a MAC runner. The Eagles finished 10th as a team in the prestigious Gold Division, the best by any MAC school at the meet, and were the fourth-best Great Lakes Regional team, with Butler (fifth overall) leading the way, followed by host Notre Dame (sixth), Michigan (ninth) and EMU. A total of five Eagles broke the 25-minute mark this weekend, leading EMU to a seventh place ranking in the latest USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional poll.

 


 

Other Women's Nominees

Vanessa Gilbert, Ball State, Senior, Kettering, Ohio (Fairmont)        

Notre Dame Invitational -- 5K

Time: 18.31     

The Ball State cross country team will continue its season on Oct. 18 when they participate in the Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.

 

Mary Veith, Buffalo, Senor, Derby, NY (Lake Shore) 

Paul Short Invitational -- 6K  

Time: 21:21    

Veith improved her time by nine seconds over her performance last year at the Paul Short. She is showing signs of continued progress. Her 21;21 is a very good time on that course. Veith finished 37th in a field of 301 women's runners.

 

Amanda Rudert, Central Michigan, Senior, Mount Pleasant, Mich. (Mount Pleasant)

adidas Notre Dame Invitational (Gold Race) -- 5K    

Time: 18:07    

Rudert turned in a PR at the adidas Notre Dame Invitational with a 5K time of 18:07.  She placed 15th in the gold race.

 

Laura Neufarth, Miami, Junior, Centerville, Ohio (Ohio State)           

Cowboy Invitational (Oklahoma State) -- 6K

Time: 21:52    

Neufarth led the RedHawks to an impressive third-place finish at the Cowboy Jamboree at Oklahoma State on Saturday morning. Neufarth finished the 6K race in 21:52, which placed her 16th overall. Miami was just 12 points behind nationall contender Oklahoma State and defeated an impressive group of teams including Kansas, Kansas State, Indiana, Oklahoma, and TCU.

 

Kari Summers, Ohio, Junior, Troy, Ohio          

Notre Dame Invitational (Gold Division) -- 5K

Time: 17:41    

Reigning MAC Runner of the Week Kari Summers followed her second-place performace at the Ohio Invitational with a third-place showing at the Notre Dame Invitational. She was the top finisher from the MAC out of a field of almost 200 competitors. She helped the Bobcats to a sixth place team finish out of 23, the top MAC team.

 

Other Men's Nominees

Jacob Hagen, Buffalo, Sophomore, Amherst, NY (Sweet Home)       

Paul Short Invitational -- 8K  

Time: 25:29:00           

Hagen had a breakthrough performance at the big time meet. His time of 25:29 bettered his time over last year by over 75 seconds. He led his team with a very strong and smart race.

 

Sammy Kiprotich, Central Michigan, Sophomore, Eldoret, Kenya/Tambach  

adidas Notre Dame Invitational (Gold Race) -- 8K    

Time: 24:59:00

Kiprotich broke 25 minutes in an 8K for the first time this season.  He placed third in the gold race at the adidas Notre Dame Invitational with a mark of 24:59, nine seconds behind the winner.  The finished help CMU finish sixth in the team standings, ahead of two regionally ranked teams (Ohio and Oakland).

 

Pat Sovacool, Miami, Senior, Lakewood, Ohio (St. Ignatius) 

Notre Dame Invitational -- 8K

Time: 24:20:00           

Sovacool finished a team-best 29th at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday in Notre Dame, Ind. Sovacool led the RedHawks to a 13th place finish against national-caliber opponents including Florida State, Tulsa, Texas A & M, and Florida.

 

Ridge Robinson, Ohio, Junior, Navarre, Ohio  

Notre Dame Invitational (Gold Division) -- 8K

Time: 25:06:00           

Robinson placed seventh out of nearly 200 runners at the Notre Dame Invitational. He was one of two Bobcats to finish in the top 10 and helped Ohio to a seventh place team finish out of 23.
