MAC Announces Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

Track Athlete of the Week

Pat Sovacool, Miami, Jr., Lakewood, Ohio/ St. Ignatius

Automatically qualifies for NCAA Regionals Best time in the MAC this season. Fifth on all-time performance list at Miami. (5,000 meters; 13:56.77; fifth) She was spiked on the first lap and ran the entire race with a torn up shoe and bleeding foot.

 

Field Athlete of the Week

John Harper, Kent State, Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller

Harper placed third in the men’s discus with a mark of 174’-8” at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday (4/26).


 

Track Nominees

Dan Giza, Buffalo, Sr., Lancaster, NY/Lancaster

Giza finished the 1500m in third place at the Gina Relays, setting a PR with his time of 3:53.85.

 

Matt Loiselle, Central Michigan, Sr., Windsor, Ont./Riverside SS

Loiselle placed 11th in invitational 5000m at the Hillsdale Relays with a time of 14:36.61. He was the third collegiate finisher in the race.

 

Field Nominees

Chandler Brown, Fr., Rochester, NY/Eastridge

Brown tied with teammate Loic Sebuharara for first place in the triple jump at the Gina Relays at 46-4 (14.12m). He also tied for 11th in the long jump at 21-6 (6.55m), setting a season-best.

 

Gerald Gersham, Eastern Michigan, Jr., Southfield, Mich.-Southfield

Junior Gerald Gersham was the Eagles' top performer at the Hillsdale Relays. He finished second in the shot put, heaving 54-03.25. He also competed in the hammer, throwing 134-07.
