MAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

Cliff Morrison ? Ball State

Freshman - South Africa (Eden College)

Morrison went 2-1 in singles action last weekend at the Boise State Invitational.  He only lost once but the match was close against Memphis losing in three sets.  Morrison won his doubles match 8-1 in the Cardinals 7-0 victory over Idaho State.  With the two wins over the course of the weekend Morrison improved to 12-3 on the season. The true freshman owns the best singles overall record out of all the Cardinals. Morrison lost to Michael Hayes of Memphis, 2-6, 7-6, 3-6 at No. 5 singles; defeated Ross Dechant of Idaho State, 6-1, 6-4 No. 4 singles; and defeated Ching Holden of Sacramento State at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 7-6, 7-3.

Kirill Kolomyts ? Buffalo

Junior - Moscow, Russia (Moscow High School 155)

Kolomyts won his 20th singles match of the season with his 6-3, 6-4 win over Toledo's Sven Burus. On the week at singles (number two) defeated Sven Burus (Toledo), 6-3, 6-4 lost to Michael Calderone (WMU), 7-6 (2), 6-2 doubles (number one with Marcelo Mazzetto) lost to Jared Miller/Nuthavit Likitkumchorn (Toledo), 8-5 defeated Michael Calderone/Kazuya Komada (WMU), 8-7 (3).

 

Knot Likitkumchorn ? Toledo

Sophomore - Yala, Thailand (Triam Udom Suksa)

Likitkumchorn defeated Alex Kalinin (UB), 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 in No. 3 singles against Buffalo... teamed with Jared Miller for an 8-5 No. 1 singles win over Buffalo... the duo dropped their No. 1 singles match against No. 6 Ohio State and Likitkumchorn's No. 3 singles match was unfinished at OSU.

 

Kevin Hayward ? Western Michigan

Senior - Ann Arbor, Mich. (Pioneer)

Kevin Hayward moved into a tie for seventh all-time at Western Michigan with 183 overall victories and reached 100 career singles wins after posting a 4-0 record on Sunday against Buffalo and Kalamazoo College. Hayward won both of his matches at No. 1 singles in straight sets with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Buffalo and 6-2, 6-3 win against Kalamazoo College. He won both doubles matches at No. 2, 8-4 against UB and 8-5 at K-College. Hayward is now 45-28 overall this season.
