Cleveland -- The Academic All-MAC Men’s tennis team as voted by league Faculty Athletic Representatives was announced today with 10 student-athletes named.
Leading the way with five selections was Northern Illinois as Diego Zegarra-Ballon was named for the second year in a row. The Huskies were also represented by Alfonso Monroy, Javier Bernabe, Jimmy Chu and Alex Friesen.
MAC regular season and tournament champion Western Michigan had three selections as Alex Birchmeier and Bryan Norville were honored for the second consecutive season, and were joined this year by Alejandro Staub.
Rounding out the squad are Jared Miller, another repeat honor from 2007, and Prakoso Immanuel from Chicago State, a first-year affiliate MAC member.
This year’s academic honorees who were also selected All-MAC are Birchmeier, Staub, Miller, Friesen and Immanuel. Friesen was also honored earlier this year as the Jack Vredevelt Sportsmanship Award winner and Staub as the MAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
Nominees must have a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average to be eligible for the team.
