Men's Cross Country Runner Of The Week
Pat Sovacool, Miami, Jr., Lakewood, Ohio (St. Ignatius)
Sovacool placed 31st at the Pre-NCAA Invitational at Indiana State University on Saturday. His time helped the RedHawks place 21st out of 38 teams from around the nation.
Other Women’s Cross Country Nominations
Ashley Fischer, Bowling Green, Fr., Fremont, Ohio (Fremont Ross)
The freshman has led the Falcon women, who were ranked 15th in the latest Great Lakes Regional poll in every race this season. She finished 14th in the Falcon Invitational and ran her fourth-race of the year with a time under 18:30.
Mary Veith, Buffalo, Jr., Lake Shore, N.Y. (Lake Shore)
Ran a great race at the Falcon Invite, running a personal best for the 5k distance of 17:45. Mary placed 3rd overall in the strong field that had 191 runners.
Amanda Rudert, Central Michigan, Jr., Mount Pleasant, Mich. (Mount Pleasant)
In a meet featuring seven top 25-ranked teams, Rudert finished 152nd with a time of 22:17.
Kalli Williams, Eastern Michigan, Sr., Dexter, Mich. (Dexter)
The Eagles were led once again by senior Kalli Williams. Williams, who has been consistent for the Green and White all season long, had another top 10 performance, finishing seventh in a time of 18:07.00.
Kassandra Meholick, Kent State, Fr., New Cumberland, Pa. (Cedar Cliff)
Meholick continued to impress in her rookie campaign with the Golden Flashes, finishing 10th at the Falcon Invitational in Bowling Green, Ohio, to help pace the KSU women's squad to a fifth-place finish overall.
Laura Neufarth, Miami, So., Centerville, Ohio (Ohio State)
With her fifth-straight win to start her RedHawk career, Miami sophomore Laura Neufarth recorded a first as a Miami runner, breaking the 18:00 mark. Neufart won the Falcon Invitational at Bowling Green State University in 17:37.97. Her scorching time helped the RedHawks to their fourth win of the season over Toledo, Bowling Green, Ohio State, Kent State, Buffalo, and Eastern Michigan.
Kari Summers, Ohio, Jr., Troy, Ohio (Troy)
Summers finished first amongst Ohio runners, 71st overall in the women's white race at Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.
Renata Volf, Toledo, Jr., Krizevci, Croatia
Volf helped UT come in second place only behind the 7th ranked Miami with her fifth place finish.
Other Men’s Cross Country Nominations
Eddie Kipchoge, Bowling Green, So., Eldoret, Kenya
For Kipchoge, it was his second individual title of the 2007 season and sixth-overall in his BG career, as the sophomore ran his second-fastest career time, just behind his time of 24:16 at the Greater Louisville Classic. The Eldoret, Kenya native won by just over 18 seconds on Lansing Community College's Rex Kiptuli (25:00.08).
Dan Giza, Buffalo, Sr., Lancaster, N.Y. (Lancaster)
Giza continues to lead his team this season with another top 5 performance at the Falcon Invite, placing 4th overall in a time of 25:23. His leadership helped his team placed a strong 4th of 14 teams at the invite.
Sammy Kiprotich, Central Michigan, Fr., Eldoret, Kenya (Tambach)
Great American Cross Country Festival Nike Race of Champions/8K
Kiprotich led CMU to the team title at the Great American Cross Country Festival with a third-place individual showing. He was the top collegiate runner with a time of 25:54.
Josh Karanja, Eastern Michigan, Jr., Ottawa, Canada (Nepean)
Karanja led the Eagles for the fourth time in as many tries this season. After a blistering performance at Notre Dame two weeks ago, Karanja solidified his dominance by running an even faster 8K. He finished the championship caliber race in 32nd place in a time of 23:56, 20 seconds faster than his performance at Notre Dame for a new collegiate-best. He was the top MAC runner in his race.
Scott Hilditch, Kent State, Fr., Stow, Ohio (Woodridge)
Hilditch recorded a fifth-place finish at the Falcon Invitational Saturday (10/13) -- the best finish of his young career -- to help the Kent State men's team capture the overall team title in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Craig Leon, Ohio, Grad., Van Wert, Ohio (Van Wert)
Leon's 23:58.00 time at Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind., was good for second best all-time in Ohio cross country history. The graduate student from Van Wert, Ohio, took 39th overall in the men's white race.
Adam Bernal, Toledo, Sr., Findlay, Ohio (Findlay)
Bernal led UT with his 28th place finish at the Falcon Invite and helped the Rockets take eighth place.
