Buffalo 1, Hartwick 0
ONEONTA, NY - Visiting Buffalo was the beneficiary of a Hartwick own goal which proved to be the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory for the Bulls in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams. The win evens UB's record at 4-4 while the Hawks drop to 1-7-1.

The lone tally of the night came in the 29th minute on direct kick into the Hartwick penalty area. Buffalo back Tom Beckvermit took the kick 70 yards from the 'Wick goal and the ball was headed backwards by a Hawk defender at the top of the 18. The ball eluded keeper Jake Wright who had come out on the play and it trickled over the line before he could recover.

The Bulls held an 8-3 advantage in shots in the opening half but the Hawks came alive in the second 45-minute period and had several opportunities to get the equalizer. In the 56th minute, sophomore Simon Greatwich blasted a shot on target from 25 yards out that forced a diving grab from Buffalo goalie Nick Fetterman.

Later in the half, senior Steven Amaya made a couple of moves to get by a pair of Bull defenders at the top of the 18-yard box but his shot was high and up over the crossbar. Sophomore midfielder Jherrett Maroney fired three shots on the Buffalo goal in the second half including one in the 68th minute that screamed wide of the post.

Both teams took seven shots in the second half of play. The Bulls ended the night with a 15-11 advantage and a 5-1 edge in corners.

Wright ended the match with one save in the first half. Lee Fenner played the second half in goal and earned two saves. Fetterman made five stops for the Bulls to earn the shutout.

Hartwick is on the road this Saturday in another MAC match. The Hawks travel to play Northern Illinois at 1 p.m. in Dekalb, IL.
