Akron Kofi Sarkodie (soccer)

Kofi Sarkodie (Jr., 3.969, microbiology) broke a scoreless tie in the 64th minute with his first game-winning goal of the season to lead the No. 1-ranked Zips to a 2-0 win at Bowling Green in the MAC opener for both schools. Additionally, as the veteran defender on the Zips' talented back line, Sarkodie helped lead the UA defense to its eighth straight shutout, dating back to the 2009 season. It is the ninth-longest consecutive shutout streak in NCAA history.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
