Laura Bavaird, Western Michigan, Sr., Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile HS
Laura Bavaird finished fifth at the 2008 Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, topping all other Mid-American Conference competitors. Her second round score of 1-under par 71 matched a career low she originally set at the Shoot-out at the Legends during the fall of 2006. Bavaird went 3-under par on the par 4 holes to lead to field. She played those holes at a 3.90 stroke average.
Jessica McCann, Bowling Green, Sr.
Senior Jessica McCann had one of her best tournaments of the season, shooting a 224 in 54 holes. She opened the tournament with a 78-74 and finished with a career-low 72 on the final day of competition. She finished in a tie for 10th in the 105 person field. She also helped the Falcons nearly card a new school record of 941 in 54 holes, four shots off the 937.
Courtney Aili, Eastern Michigan, Jr., Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea
Junior Courtney Aili finished as the lowest scoring Eagles in a tie for 10th place with a 224 (73-75-76). The Eastern Michigan University women’s golf team carded its lowest round of the weekend to move up five spots to finish in fifth place Sunday, March 9, here at the highly competitive Rio Verde Invitational. The Eagles, who were in 10th place after 36-holes, fired a 297 in the final round of the three-day tournament for a 909 (303-309-297) at the par 72, 6,613 yard Quail Run Course.
Tara Delaney, Kent State, Sr., Carlow, Ireland
Delaney posted her second top 10 finish of the season to lead the Flashes to a fourth-place showing at the Texas A & M “Mo”morial. Playing in difficult conditions all weekend, her opening 78 and closing 76 were KSU’s low scores for the respective.
Michelle Hui, Toledo, Fr., Mt. Eliza, Australia/Toorak College
Registered the best finish of her career with a 13th-place showing at the Rio Verde Collegiate. She also carded a one-over par 73 for the best round of her collegiate career.
