Female Scholar Athlete of the Week: April 18-24

Eastern Michigan Sarah Johnson (golf)
Sarah Johnson (So., 3.62, supply chain management) claimed the Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Individual Championship following the final round at the 2011 MAC Championship Sunday, April 24, at the par 72, 6,073 yard Longaberger Golf Club. Finishing at even-par 216 for the tournament, including a one-under par effort in the final round, Johnson becomes the first EMU player to win individual medalist honors since the program began prior to the 1996-97 campaign. Johnson finished seven strokes ahead of the rest of the field, and turned in scores of 72-73-71 in the championships. The previous best individual finish by an EMU golfer was a third-place effort by Catherine Fortin (2007), Stephany Fleet (2009) and Robyn Scott (2010).For her efforts, she was was named to the all-tournament team and first team All-MAC squad.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
