Female Scholar Athlete of the Week: December 13-19

Kaihla Szunko (Sr., 3.84, health fitness) recorded just the second triple-double in program history to lead CMU to an 82-66 victory over Southeastern Conference opponent Ole Miss in the Chippewas' first game in the new McGuirk Arena. Szunko tallied 21 points, 16 rebounds and a CMU single-game record 10 steals in the win. She made 10-of-15 shots from the floor, and 10 of her 16 rebounds came on the offensive end. Szunko scored 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting as CMU built a 40-36 halftime lead, and six of her school-record 10 steals came in the second half as the Chippewas built a lead that stretched to as many as 21 points. Szunko is the team's second leading scorer on the season (16.9 ppg), but she leads the Chippewas in rebounding (12.1 rpg) and steals (36) and is tied for the team lead in blocked shots (10). CMU has won three of its last four games to improve to 7-3 overall.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
