Male Scholar Athlete of the Week: Nov. 29 - Dec. 5
Miami Austin Boucher (football)
Austin Boucher (R-Fr., 3.72, business economics) in just his third career start, Boucher led Miami to the MAC Championship as he helped the RedHawks down No. 24/25 Northern Illinois, 26-21, Friday night in the MAC Championship game in Detroit, giving Miami its first win over a ranked opponent since 2003 and its first league title since that same season. He set career highs in completions, attempts and yards as he finished the game 29-for-46 for 333 yards, 120 more yards than his previous best effort, while tossing the game-winning touchdown and throwing no interceptions. Boucher led Miami on the game-winning drive as the ‘Hawks trailed NIU 21-20 with less than a minute to play but converted a 4th-and-20 to keep the drive alive with a 31-yard pass and on the next play found Armand Robinson for a 33-yard touchdown pass to give Miami the MAC title.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
