Male Scholar Athlete of the Week: January 3-9
Miami Austin Boucher (football)
Austin Boucher (R-Fr., 3.72, economics) led Miami to a 35-21 victory over Middle Tennessee State in the GoDaddy.com Bowl Thursday night, marking Miami's first bowl win since 2003 and capping a remarkable turnaround, as the RedHawks became the first team in Division I FBS history to go from double-digit losses (11 in 2009) one year to double-digit wins (10 this year) the next. He was named MVP of the bowl game after going 22-for-35 for 289 passing yards and throwing for a pair of touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in the third quarter to break a 21-21 tie. Boucher also tossed a career-long 70-yard pass in the first quarter.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
