Pepsi Female Athlete of the Week
Ohio University - Kim van Selm - Sophomore - Durban, South Africa -- Finished the week with four first-place finishes, one second- place and one third-place finish. She took first against Cincinnati in the 1000 Free with the conference's best time of the season at 10:13.85, while all of her other finishes placed her conference times no lower than fifth in each event. On top of the 1000 Free victory, van Selm also won the 500 Free (4:59.27, 4:57.25) and the 200 Free (1:52.67).
Pepsi Male Athlete of the Week
Ohio University - Vermund Vetness - Senior -
Hafsjord, Norway -- Captured two individual firsts and and two second-place finishes while setting top ten conference marks in three different events. Vetness took firsts in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 46.60 and in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 49.87, both personal season-bests. Vetness picked up second-place finishes in the 50 Freestyle (21.22) and the 100 Freestyle against Cincinnati. His time in the 50 Free is the sixth-best time in the conference this season.
Other Notable Female Performances
Ball State - Rachel Gingerich - Had three first-place victories and was on three winning relay teams. Her time in the 100 Backstroke (1:00.27) was the 11th fastest of the year in the conference.
Bowling Green - Nancy Simpson - Had three top-three conference times in three different events as she finished first in the 100 Backstroke (57.90), first in the 200 Backstroke (2:07.12) and helped the 200 Medley Relay team to a first-place finish (1:48.27).
Buffalo - Inger Rooneem - Had three individual first-place finishes in the 50 Free (24.06), 100 Free (52.29) and the 200 IM (2:09.39), which established a new Toledo pool record.
Eastern Michigan - Althea Lim - Had two individual first-place finishes, finished first with the 200-yard Medley Relay squad and finished second in the 200 Butterfly. Her time in the 200 IM (2:07.10) was the third best this season in the MAC.
Northern Illinois - Heidi Burmeister - Had six top-five finishes, including two firsts in the 200 Butterfly (2:12.60) and the 200 Backstroke (2:14.86).
Toledo - Sheona Lottering - Had three individual firsts in the 200 Free (1:54.20), 500 Free (5:00.47) and the 1650 Free (17:13.87)
Other Notable Male Performances
Bowling Green- Tim Early - Captured an individual first in the 100 Backstroke (52.41), took fifth in the 100 Free (48.33) and second in 400 Free relay.
Eastern Michigan - Keith Falk - Had two individual firsts in the 500 Free (4:43.76) and in the 1650 (16:15.44).
Northern Illinois - Mick Coyne - Captured three overall firsts one second-place finishe in the 200 IM (1:54.18) and the 200 Backstroke (1:53.88).
Toledo - Jeff Leupold - Finished first in the 200 Breaststroke (2:09.36) and second in the 200 IM. His time of 1:55.93 in the 200 IM is the third-fastest of the season.
