    Marshall Knocks Off Detroit, 77-69

    HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Travis Young scored 21 points and Tamar Slay had 14 of his 19 points in the second half as Marshall defeated Detroit, 77-69, on Monday (Nov. 27).

    Marshall (2-1) won the game at the free-throw line, making 22-of-26 attempts (85 percent). Detroit made 5-of-9.

    The Thundering Herd took the lead for good, 67-66, on a Slay jumper with 2:34 left to start a 12-0 run. Slay scored six points during the run.

    Junior college transfer Latece Williams added 17 points and J.R. VanHoose had 11 for Marshall. Each had nine rebounds, although Marshall was outrebounded 48-36.

    Willie Green kept the Titans (3-1) in the contest with 21 points on 10-of-15 shooting.

    Terrell Riggs had 16 points and 13 rebounds while Rashad Phillips, last year's MidWestern Collegiate Conference player of the year, scored all 16 of his points in the second half.


    Ball State Falls To Butler, 71-48

    INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - LaVall Jordan scored 20 points Monday to lead Butler to a 71-48 win over Ball State.

    Jordan was one of four Butler players in double figures, with Thomas Jackson and Rylan Hainje adding 13 points each and Brandon Miller scoring 11. Hainje also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

    Butler (3-0) never trailed in the game and led by as many as 12 points in the first half.

    Ball State (1-2) went on a run with about 11 minutes remaining in the game, drawing to within five points on a 3-pointer by Patrick Jackson, which made the score 46-41.

    But several minutes later, Butler's Jackson made two consecutive 3-pointers to boost the Bulldogs lead back up to 12. They never looked back from there.

    Theron Smith led Ball State with 14 points and eight rebounds. The Cardinals outrebounded Butler 35-25.


    UNC Wilmington Defeats Bowling Green, 91-76

    WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - Forward Ed Williams scored 28 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead UNC Wilmington to a 91-76 win against Bowling Green on Monday (Nov. 27).

    Barron Thelmon netted 19 points while Brett Blizzard added 15 for the Seahawks (2-2). Ten players scored for the Seahawks.

    Guard Keith McLeod led Bowling Green (1-1) with 24 points, hitting 9 of 21 shots. Center Len Matela added 18 points and 11 rebounds, while forward Brandon Pardon scored 11 and had seven assists.

    The Seahawks, who led 40-35 at halftime, hit 4 of 7 3-point tries in the second half. N.C.-Wilmington held a 40-36 rebounding advantage in the game and forced 20 Bowling Green turnovers.

    The Seahawks tallied 11 steals.
