KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Greg Stempin scored 23 points as Toledo beat Creighton 61-to-57 Sunday night in the championship game of the Energia Systems
Thanksgiving Tournament.
Toledo (3-0) led 36-to-27 at halftime, but was overtaken by Creighton (3-1) when Ryan Sears made a shot giving the Bluejays a 45-to-43 lead with 6:57
remaining in the game.
Stempin, who was named M-V-P of the tournament, had a free throw at 6:47 and a long three-pointer from the right baseline at the 6:15 mark to give the Rockets the lead for
good. Stempin was three-for-three from three-point range.
Terry Reynolds, who was averaging 29-point-five points a game for Toledo before Sunday, was held to ten points, five of which were made with 1:12 left. Reynolds also had
five assists. Robierre Collars added another ten points for the Rockets.
Creighton was held to 32 percent shooting from the field.
Ben Walker, who fouled out with 1:12 left, led the Bluejays with 15 points and Sears added 13.
