CLEVELAND (Nov. 27) -- Akron's Nate Schindewolf (East Division) and Toledo's Greg
Stempin (West Division) are the recipients of the Mid-American Conference men's
basketball Player of the Week awards for the second week of the 2000-01 season.

MAC East Division Player of the Week - University of Akron's Nate Schindewolf
(6-5, G, Sr., Akron, Ohio)
Schindewolf scored a career-high 26 points in leading the Zips to a 79-68
season-opening road win at Oakland University. The senior went 5-of-7 from
the floor and 7-of-7 from the line in the second half as Akron came from
behind to win. For the game, he was 10-of-11 from the line.
MAC West Division Player of the Week - Toledo's Greg Stempin (6-8, F, Sr., Macomb, Mich.)
Stempin was named MVP of the Energia Systems Thanksgiving Day Tournament in
Kansas City by averaging 19.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game as the Rockets
beat three teams that participated in last year's NCAA Tournament. UT's wins
came against Southeast Missouri State (59-43), Auburn (95-90 in double overtime)
and Creighton (61-57). Stempin's numbers were, respectively, 14 points and
11 rebounds; 22 points, eight rebounds, seven assists; and 23 points and six rebounds.

West Division Player of the Week nominations
(Ball State, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Toledo,
Central Michigan's David Webber scored 24 points each of two games, a 67-66
win over Purdue and a 70-56 triumph over Illinois-Chicago. Against Purdue,
he took a rebound with four seconds left and drove the length of the floor
before dishing off for the game-winning basket. Webber was 21-of-27 from the
free throw line during the week and added four assists and three steals in 72 minutes.
He also pulled down 10 rebounds versus Purdue.
Eastern Michigan's Melvin Hicks averaged 14.5 ppg in losses to Hampton (12 points) and
Detroit (17). Hicks set career-highs in both games and was 6-of-13 from three-point
range (46.2%). He averaged three rebounds a game.
Northern Illinois' Leon Rodgers averaged 19.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in two games.
The Huskies lost by four points at No. 18 Wisconsin, 68-64, and to Wright State, 73-66.
Rodgers posted game-highs of 22 points and nine rebounds versus the Badgers after
collecting 16 rebounds and scoring 17 points versus Wright State.
East Division Player of the Week nominations
(Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Kent State, Marshall, Miami, Ohio)
Buffalo's Louis Campbell scored 11 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds in
a 74-68 loss to Niagara.
Kent State's Trevor Huffman averaged 20.5 ppg in two games, a 90-56 win over
Mercyhurst and a 76-61 loss at Arizona State. Huffman scored a career-high 26
points at ASU. He added 10 assists and had four steals in the two games.
Marshall's Tamar Slay scored a game-high 28 points in Marshall's 79-75 loss at No.
17 Cincinnati. Slay made 9-of-15 from the field, grabbed five rebounds and handed
out two assists in 40 minutes. His 28 points was the most scored versus UC at the
Shoemaker Center in three years.
