MAC Pepsi Women's Golfer of the Week

Dowling tied for fourth place at the Hawkeye Invitational, for her
second top-10 finish of the season. She scored a 229 for three rounds
with a low round of 76. Dowling led Kent to a fifth-place team finish
at the event.
Other Top Performances
Shelley Binzel (BGSU, Fr., Dublin, Ohio) recorded her third straight
top-13 finish at the Illini Spring Classic on April 15-16. She scored
162 in two rounds with a low round of 80 to tie for 13th place.
Janelle Warrick (NIU, Fr., Neenah, Wis.) posted a 36-hole career-low of
162 at the Illini Spring Classic. She averaged 81 strokes for the
two-round tournament with a low round of 80 in the final round. Warrick
tied for 13th place (a career-best finish) to lead the Huskies to a
fifth-place finish as a team.
Julee Sovesky (Ohio, Jr., New Castle, Pa.) finished third at the EKU
Lady Colonel Classic with a score of 154. She shot back-to-back rounds
of 77 to mark her seventh top-10 finish in eight tournaments. Sovesky
finished just two strokes behind the co-medalists.
Stefanie Eifert (Toledo, Fr. Lakota, Ohio) tied for fourth place with a
two-round score of 155 (81-74). She led the Rockets to a sixth-place
team finish.
Erica Bieniek (WMU, Fr., Scottville, Mich.) captured medalist honors in
WMU's 333-524 victory over Chicago State in dual meet action. Bieniek
has now posted team medalist honors on five occasions.
Team Notes
Ball State inked its first recruiting class, signing four athletes to
natioinal letters of intent. Head coach Shelley Sanders is renewing the
Cardinal's women's golf program after a 18-year absence. BSU
discontinued its women's golf team in March, 1982, but will begin play
again this fall. Laura Adkins (Sparta, Wis.), Jamie Hovious
(Martinsville, Ind.), Sara Padgett (Noblesville, Ind.) and Lisa
Robertson (Goshen, Ind.) have all signed on to help BSU reinstate its
program.
Northern Illinois picked up its top finish of the season with a
fifth-place mark at the Illini Classic. Three NIU golfers placed in the
top-20 for the first time this season, and the Huskies scored a 655 for
two rounds, the second-best score of the season for the team.
Ohio finished fifth at the EKU Lady Colonel Classic keeping alive a
steak of eight consecutive top-five performances this season. Junior
Julee Sovesky led the Bobcats with a third-place finish. Senior Heather
Fueger posted her seventh top-20 finish with a score of 159 to finish in
16th place. Senior Hayley Amerine recorded her top finish of the season
with a 44th-place finish, tying her season-low two-round score of 166.
Western Michigan will take a weekend off to wrap up final exams before
heading to Hamilton, Ohio, for the Mid-American Conference Women's Golf
Championship April 28-30. The Broncos picked up a win in a dual match
against Chicago State on April 14.
