Eastern Michigan - Emily McCarty Placed first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events
in Eastern's win against Denison. Her season-best score of score of 278.48 in the 1-meter diving event was
an NCAA zone meet qualifying score. She also qualified for the NCAA zone meet with a score of 312.45
on the 3-meter board. The mark is a personal best and beats the EMU record she set last year against Denison.

Bowling Green - Bethany Budde Recorded first-place finishes in the 100 breast (1:07.03) and 200
breast (2:24.88) in a dual-meet loss at Buffalo.
Buffalo - Inger Rooneem Picked up first place in the 50 free (24.45) and 100 free (53.08) in a
dual-meet win over Bowling Green. Also, placed first in the 200 IM (2:10.45).
Miami - Amanda Furlano Helped carry Miami to its first two MAC wins of the season by going
four-for-four last Saturday. She swept the 100 (1:06.20) and 200 breast (2:22.62). She also captured first in the
200 IM (2:10.48) and swam a leg on Miami's first-place 200 medley relay team.
Northern Illinois - Sarah Rulseh Her first-place performance in the 100 fly (:57.85) highlighted a
four-event day against Mid-American Conference opponents Ball State and Miami (Ohio). Picked up second
and third-place efforts in the 200 fly with a 2:09.92, while also lending a helping hand in two NIU relay events.
Toledo - Marsha Clouthier Member of the 400 free relay team which set a pool record with a time
of 3:34.94. Swam team-best times of 2:09.16 in the 200 IM and 2:08.58 in the 200 fly.

AKRON RECAP: Akron will return to Mid-American Conference action this weekend, traveling to
Eastern Michigan to swim against EMU and Cleveland State. Last weekend, head coach Brian Vereb's first-year
program traveled to Loretto, Pa., for a double-dual against Georgetown and Saint Francis College. Akron lost both
duals, with a 58-37 score against Georgetown and a 50-46 loss to host Saint Francis. The Zips were able to win the
last event of the meet, the 200 free relay, in both duals, with Carrie Manhart, Erin Crabtree, Darcy Wakefield
and Kristy Castillo setting a new school record with a time of 1:42.73.
SIWEK TAKES A DIVE FOR THE TEAM: Ball State senior Caroline Siwek made her first appearance as
a diver since her senior year in high school on Saturday at Miami . The Cardinals clung to a 73-58 lead
over Northern Illinois after seven events. The next event was 1-meter diving. With BSU and Northern Illinois
having just two divers each, Siwek agreed to compete. She scored 145.65 points to finish fifth and earn one point.
BSU went on to post a 168-131.
HITCH'N UP THE VICTORY LIST: Erinn Hitch improved her career total to 32 victories with three
wins Saturday. She captured the 200 fly against Miami and Northern Illinois with a clocking of 2:07.29 for two of
the wins. Hitch later prevailed in the 100 fly against Miami with a time of 59.01. Despite being just a
sophomore, Hitch already ties for 17th in team annals with 32 wins. After ranking third on the team with 15 victories as
a freshman
BOWLING GREEN NOTES: Seventeen members of the Bowling Green women's swimming and diving
team
had at least a 3.00 grade-point average or higher during fall term. The Falcons won six individual events and
both relays but still lost at Buffalo on Saturday. Junior Bethany Budde finished first in the 100 breast (1:07.03)
and 200 breast (2:24.88).
EMU BEATS DENISON TO SNAP STREAK: The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming
and diving team snapped its two-meet losing streak with a commanding 151-90 win against Denison at home on
Jan. 23. The Eagles, who had lost earlier to Ohio and Michigan State, are now 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the
Mid-American Conference. Eastern finished in the top three in nine of the events, getting multiple wins from several swimmers.
Sarah Conger finished first in the 50 and 100 free, placing at 24.48 and 52.77 respectively. Jacy Leonard
pulled in wins in the 200 and 500 free (1:56.77, 5:10.13) and Jennifer Arnold touched first in the 200 fly (2:09.40)
and the 200 individual medley (2:12.15). Danielle Reich recorded a win in the 1,000 free (2:06.47) and swam to
first place and a season-best time of 2:11.20 in the 200 back. Kristin Keery finished first in the 200 breast
(2:23.76). Emily McCarty took first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Her score of 278.48 in the 1-meter

NEXT TIME IN THE WATER: The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team will
take a short road trip to Oakland University for a meet on Jan. 29, at 7 p.m., then will return for a tri-meet
against Cleveland State and Akron on Jan. 30, at 1 p.m. The Eagles close out their season at home in the Michael H.
Jones Natatorium on Feb. 13 against Toledo.
DIVERS MAKE BIG SPLASH VS.
DENISON: EMU divers made a big splash in the 151-90 win
against Denison at home on Jan. 23. The divers took the top four spots in both the 1- and 3-meter diving events and
posted season-bests in both. Emily McCarty finished first on both boards. Her score of 278.48 on the 1-meter
board beats her previous score by 20 points, while her score of 312.45 beats her previous 3-meter score by more
than 78 points. Julie Sweet beat her 1-meter best by more than 35 points and her 3-meter score by more than 57.
Sarah Coomb's score of 242.9 on the 1-meter beat her previous best of 214.72, and bested her 3-meter score by
more than 38 points; while Kelly McCarty beat her 1-meter previous best by more than 39 points and her 3-meter
score by more than 24 points.
MIAMI NOTES: The Miami women's swim team notched a pair of dual-meet victories this past weekend
when it hosted MAC-rivals Ball State and Northern Illinois. The women (7-4 overall, 2-1 MAC) cruised to a
185-113 win over the Cardinals and a 189-99 victory over the Huskies. Katherine Sheridan paced Miami by winning
the 1,000 free in a school-record time of 10:11.79. Jennifer Schneider captured first in the 100 back and also
swam a leg on Miami's first-place 200 medley relay team. Amanda Furlano rolled to victories in the 100 and 200
breast and the 200 IM.
NORTHERN ILLINOIS NOTES: Kelly Amundson swam three season-best times for Northern Illinois
a 1:54.77 in the 200 free; a :54.25 in the 100 free; and a 1:00.92 in the 100 fly. Michelle Klahre provided NIU
with a season-best performance (2:28.84) in the 200 breast. Abby Presley shined for the Huskies thanks to a
2:09.44 first-place show in the 200 back. Sarah Rulseh's 57.85 first-place in the 100 fly capped a two loss Saturday
(Jan. 23) for NIU. Northern Illinois carries a 3-3 overall record, 2-2 Mid American Conference mark on the road
this Friday (Jan. 29) as the Huskie face the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the Panthers' Klotsche Center.
