Ball State Knocks Off IUPUI, 73-65

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) -- Theron Smith scored 19 points to lead Ball State to a 73-65 win Wednesday over Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis.

Smith also had 12 rebounds and was 7-of-12 shooting and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line for Ball State (1-0).

Four other Cardinals also were in double digits. Josh Murray had 16, Patrick Jackson had 14 and Lonnie Jones and Mark Farris each added 11.

Farris and Murray also posted 11 rebounds apiece.

Don Carlisle led Indiana-Purdue at Indianapolis (1-1) with 25 points. Charles Price added 13 for the Jaguars.

The Jaguars had a 36-25 lead at halftime, but were only 11-of-35 shooting in the second half. Meanwhile, the Cardinals were 18-of-35 from the floor in the second half.

The Cardinals shot 50 percent for the game, compared to 36 percent for the Jaguars.
