Akron, Central Michigan and Bowling Green Student-Athletes Tabbed As Volleyball Players of the Week

Central Michigan sophomore Jenny Young shares the MAC Offensive Player of the Week with another second-year player, Akron's Ashlie Case. Young, who helped the Chippewas to a second-place finish at George Mason's Tournament, hit .392 in three matches and averaged 4.67 kills per contest as CMU went 2-1. Named to the all-tournament team, Young had 22 kills and a .429 attack percentage in a loss to Fresno State, then followed with 19 and 15 kills, respectively against Siena and Western Carolina.

Akron's Ashlie Case, who missed the majority of last season with an injury, returned to the lineup for the Zips and helped UA to a 2-1 record at Villanova's Wildcat Invitational. Case, the MAC Freshman of the Year in 1998, averaged 5.22 kills per game and hit .371, aiding the Zips to a second-place finish at the tournament. The sophomore had 20 kills and 13 digs in a three-game loss to American and ended the tourney with a 17-kill performance in a three-game win over the host school. Case was also named to the all-tournament team.

Bowling Green freshman Susie Norris is this weeks MAC Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 5.25 digs per contest in the Falcons three matches last weekend at Indianas tournament. Norris, who also averaged 0.42 blocks per game and dropped in five aces, had double digit dig outings in each of her first three collegiate matches, including 30 in a five-game win over Cincinnati. In addition, Norris tallied 28 kills (2.33).
