KSU golfer plays best round

Seattle, Wash. - Kent State women's golfer Martina Gillen (Dublin, Ireland/Maryfield College) shot two-under today (May 23) to move up to a 12th place tied at the 2002 NCAA Women's Golf Championships at Washington National Golf Club.

Playing bogey free golf on the front nine, Gillen shot a 70. She has notched scores of 74-74-70=218 after three rounds.

"I wanted to play better today," Gillen said. "I hadn't been putting very well the last couple of days."

Individually Virada Nirapathpongporn from Duke University claimed first place for the third consecutive day with scores of 68-69-70=207. She is now nine-under for the tournament.

The University of Arizona is still atop of the NCAA Championships with rounds of 285-296-293=874.

Gillen will compete in the final round of the 2002 NCAA Women's Golf Championships May 24.
