AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) - Demond Stewart scored 21 points, hitting two three-pointers Friday night to lead Niagara over Buffalo, 80-76.

Christos DeFoudis scored 15, taking eight rebounds, and Michael Schmidt had 13 points to help Niagara (1-0) come back after halftime.

Daryl Greene had 10 assists for Niagara, which was down 40-36 at the half. As the half was ending, Stewart held the ball near the 3-point line and spoke to the referee as time was running out. The delay caused a shot clock violation which allowed UB to increase their lead.

Buffalo hit 8 3-pointers, and Robert Brown of Buffalo (0-1) had 25 points and 13 rebounds.

The Purple Eagles struggled for the first 35 minutes of the game before Daryl Greene put back his own shot and Michael Schmidt stole a Bulls' pass, converting it into a dunk and a 70-66 lead.

Louis Campbell's 3-pointer and a pair of free throws by Robert Brown put Buffalo (0-1) overall back on top 71-70.

DeFoudis' layup with 3:17 remaining gave Niagara the lead for good.

Green had 9 points and 10 assists for Niagara. Mook Reaves hit all six of his shots for 12 points while Schmidt had 13. Brown led 3 Bulls in double figures for 25 points.

Campbell contributed 15 and Gabe Cagwin had 12.
