KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) (Mar. 15) -- Marta Szumska scored 15 points, including a 3-pointer that put DePaul ahead to stay, as the Blue Demons came back to beat
Western Michigan 69-64 in a first-round NIT game on March 15.
DePaul (18-11) led 33-27 at halftime and built its lead to nine, 40-31, 1:54 into the second half on a 3-pointer by Szumska. She was 3-for-4 from 3-point range.
The Broncos scored 10 unanswered points, capped by a Shelsea Erving 3-pointer, to grab a 57-51 lead with 7:43 remaining.
But DePaul responded with a nine-point run of its own, culminating with Szumska's go-ahead 3-pointer. That gave the Blue Demons the lead for good, 60-57, with
4:21 to play.
Szumska also had nine rebounds. Lenae Williams led DePaul with 17 points and Sylvia Blakeslee added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Dionne Lassila had 16 points, Kristin Koetsier had 15 points and nine rebounds and Erving had 12 points for Western Michigan (18-12).
