CLEVELAND, Ohio (December 6) -- J.R. VanHoose of Marshall and Anthony Jones of Ohio are the recipients of the Mid-American Conference men's basketball Player of the Week awards for the third week of the 1999-2000 season. VanHoose led Marshall to two wins, including a 65-55 victory at UMASS during which he scored 19 points and pulled down 16 rebounds. Jones paced the Bobcats to a 2-1 record by making 14 steals in the three games, with eight coming in Ohio's 73-65 win versus Houston.

Marshall's J.R. VanHoose (6-10, C, So., Paintsville, Ky.)
Van Hoose averaged 18.5 points and 13.5 rebounds as the Thundering Herd beat UMASS 65-55 and Radford 90-77 to start the season 4-0. VanHoose also contributed three assists, two blocked shots and one steal while playing 75 of a possible 80 minutes.
Akron's Jimmal Ball (5-10, G, Canton, Ohio) averaged 22.0 points, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game as the Zips beat Western Kentucky 75-62 and lost at #19 Purdue 75-66. Ball scored a game-high 24 points against the Boilermakers.
Ball State's Duane Clemens (6-0, G, Sr., Muncie, Ind.) averaged 17.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals as Ball State beat
Cornell 73-65 and Wisconsin-Milwaukee 71-58.
Bowling Green's Anthony Stacey (6-4, F, Sr., Elyria, Ohio) helped the Falcons go 2-0 by posting 23 points and eight rebounds in an 80-60 win against Illinois State and 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists in a 91-86 win against Cleveland State.
Buffalo's Damien Foster (6-5, G, Jr.) Buffalo, N.Y. scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Bulls to a 75-71 win against Manhattan. Foster also contributed two assists and grabbed four rebounds in the Bulls' first home win of the season.
Ohio's Sanjay Adell (6-6, F, Sr., Milwaukee, Wis.) averaged 24.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game as the Bobcats went 2-1, beating George Washington 95-77 and Houston 73-65, before falling to Iowa 86-66.
Toledo's Greg Stempin (6-8, F, Jr., Macomb, Mich.) at the Marquette Tournament, he averaged 20.0 points and 13.0 rebounds a game as the Rockets lost to Appalachian State 68-65 and defeated Western Michigan 71-59. Stempin had 18 rebounds versus the Mountaineers, the fifth highest total ever in the tournament.

Ohio's Anthony Jones
(6-4, G, Jr., Austin, Texas)
Jones had 14 steals in three games, including eight in a 73-65 win against Houston at the Iowa Tournament. His eight steals versus the Cougars tied a school record. Jones added 17 rebounds and 34 points in the Bobcats' three games.
Ball State's Josh Murray (6-7, F, So., Indianapolis, Ind.) tallied 21 rebounds, including 13 defensive boards, as Ball State went 2-0. Murray also had 29 points, two blocked shots and one assist.
Bowling Green's Dave Esterkamp (6-7, F, Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio) helped the Falcons record two wins in as many games by pulling down 11 rebounds and making five steals. His eight rebounds in a 91-86 win against Cleveland State gave him game-high honors.
Toledo's Chad Kamstra (6-1, G, Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio) had three steals and two rebounds in two games and held his opponents to a combined 3-of-17 shooting from the floor.
