CLEVELAND -- The Mid-American Conference today announced the East and West Division Players and Pitchers of the Week for the week ending Apr. 15. Each week, the MAC will honor both an East and a West Division Player and Pitcher of the Week.
This week's Player of the Week from the East Division is Bowling Greens Lee Morrison, while Ohio's Chuck Lombardy is the Pitcher of the Week. From the West Division, Western Michigan's John Toner is the Player of the Week, while teammate Pat Misch is the Pitcher of the Week.
East Division Player of the Week
Lee Morrison, Bowling Green (Jr., OF, Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls HS)
Bowling Green's Lee Morrison is this weeks MAC East Division Player of the Week after slamming five home runs, driving in 11 runs and hitting .615 (16-for-26) in six games for the Falcons. Morrison, who is the third straight Falcon to garner Player of the Week honors, also scored 10 times, registered three doubles and had a 1.308 slugging percentage. Five of Morrisons games were multi-hit contests, including three three-hit games and one four-hit game against Marshall. In the four game series with Marshall, Morrison batted .684 (13-for-19). The senior raised his average 66 points last week in helping Bowling Green to a 4-2 record, including a split on the road against the Thundering Herd to remain in first place.
Akron's Lou Pedri hit .421 (8-for-19) in six games for the Zips, driving in six runs and scoring three times. The junior, who had four multi-hit games, also homered once and stole a base.
Kent State's Eric OBrien was 7-for-17 (.412) last week in four games with two home runs and three RBIs. The sophomore, who extended his hitting streak to 10 games, had three multi-hit games and also scored three times.
Marshall's Jason Brooks batted .500 (10-for-20) with three homers, 13 RBIs and nine runs scored for the Thundering Herd. Brooks also posted a 1.050 slugging percentage and notched four multi-hit games, three of which came against Bowling Green.
Miami's Michael Carlin hit .462 (6-for-13) with two home runs and seven RBIs in four games for the RedHawks. The sophomore scored five times and also drove home a career-high five runs in a win over Buffalo.
Ohio's Adam Fox hit .529 (9-for-17) for the Bobcats, who won three of four games last week. Fox scored seven times, drove in five, tallied three doubles and also hit a home run.
East Division Pitcher of the Week
Chuck Lombardy, Ohio (Sr., RHP, Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Hawken HS)
Ohio's Chuck Lombardy is this weeks MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week after a five hitter against Akron en route to a 2-1 win over the Zips, one of two wins by the Bobcats last weekend in league play. The senior went seven innings, allowed one earned run and fanned seven while surrendering only one walk.
Bowling Green's Ryan Lindquist was 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA in three appearances last week for the Falcons. The freshman relief pitcher tossed nine innings and gave up nine hits, four runs and struck out one while walking three. Lindquist picked up his second victory of the season against Marshall, going 6.2 innings in relief and allowing only four hits.
Buffalo's Brendan Dunford struck out team-high 11 batters in a 2-1 complete game loss to Miami on Friday. The junior, who walked only one over nine innings, scattered seven hits.
Kent State's Josh Mayle registered his first collegiate victory in an 8-1 win over Youngstown State. In seven innings, the freshman allowed three hits, one run (unearned), struck out four and walked only one.
Miami's Billy Kieninger was 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA in two appearances for the RedHawks, who were a perfect 6-0 last week. The junior pitched two innings of perfect relief in Miamis 11-10 win over Kentucky, then had a complete game effort against Buffalo, his fourth of the year. He struck out seven and walked three while giving up only four hits, all singles.
West Division Player of the Week
John Toner, Western Michigan (Sr., OF, St. Joseph, Mich./St. Joseph HS)
Western Michigan's John Toner is this weeks MAC West Division Player of the Week after hitting four home runs, driving in 10 and scoring eight runs in helping the Broncos win three of four games against Northern Illinois. Toner hit .320 for the week (8-for-25) but improved to .375 versus the Huskies and had a 1.125 slugging percentage. The senior's home run in the eighth inning of the first game with NIU proved to be the game-winning hit, then drove home four runs, three on a three-run homer, in Saturdays second game.
Ball State's Matt Deckman was 5-for-11 (.455) with three RBIs in the Cardinals three-game sweep at Kent State. The junior had two multi-hit games and also scored once and recorded a double.
Eastern Michigan's Derrick Patterson batted .667 (6-for-9) with five runs scored and six RBIs as the Eagles swept three games from Toledo. Patterson, who also had two stolen bases, had a pair of multi-hit games.
Northern Illinois' Trevor Stocking hit .533 (8-for-15) in five games last week, with half of his hits going for doubles. The freshman collected a career-high three hits in the opening game of the series against Western Michigan, two of which went for extra bases.
Toledo's J.D. Foust was 7-for-16 (.438) in four games for the Rockets. The sophomore had one home run and drove in a pair of runs, including the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the ninth against Oakland.
West Division Pitcher of the Week
Pat Misch, Western Michigan (So., LHP, Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North HS)
Western Michigan's Pat Misch is this weeks MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week after registering a pair of wins for the Broncos, one in relief and another in a nine-inning complete contest against MAC foe Northern Illinois. The sophomore opened the week with 2.1 innings of relief against Michigan, surrendering only one run, which was unearned, and striking out three in the victory over the Wolverines, 12-9. Misch then had a no-hitter for five-plus innings before giving up three hits and striking out a career-high 10 batters in the 15-0 win. For the week, Misch fanned 13 in 11.1 innings and allowed only four hits while recording a 0.00 ERA.
Ball State's Bryan Bullington notched his fifth complete game of the season -- and fourth consecutive -- with a 6-3 victory over Kent State. The sophomore, who gave up eight hits and three runs, fanned nine and didnt allow a walk.
Eastern Michigan's Joe Linde picked up his fifth straight victory with a 7-5 win over Toledo on Friday. Line went 8.2 innings and gave up 13 hits and five earned runs while striking out a season-high 10 batters.
Northern Illinois' Don Rodman gave the Huskies their first league win of the season with an 8-3 win over Western Michigan. In seven innings, Rodman gave up six hits and three runs -- two of which were earned -- and struck out three.
Toledo's Ian Baltzer tossed a six-hit complete game effort against Oakland last Tuesday. The junior recorded three strikeouts and allowed four walks in the 2-1 victory.
