Male Scholar Athlete of the Week: Jan. 24 - 30
Eastern Michigan Matt Zavislak (swimming & diving)
Matt Zavislak (Jr., 3.16, electronic media and film studies) a 3.16 Electronic Media and Film Studies Major, took first place in five different events over the weekend to help the Eagles to wins against both Xavier University and Miami University. Against Xavier, the junior was the first to finish the 50 free in 21.24, the eighth best time in the Mid-American Conference. He also anchored the winning 200 Medley Relay that finished in 1:32.53. Against Miami, he took first in the 100 and 200 freestyle events. His 200 time of 1:42.06 is fifth best in the conference. Zavislak again helped the 200 Medley Relay to a 1:32.20, first place finish to represent the third best time in the MAC.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
