KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Western Michigan junior and Ann Arbor, Mich., native Elise Swartout was named Player of the Year by the TaylorMade-Adidas Collegiate Series announced on Monday morning.
Swartout, who will be the lone junior on the WMU golf team this fall, claimed the award in part by winning the last three series events she entered, including the Tour Championship on Aug. 13.
Swartout played in five TaylorMade-Adidas events spanning from June 5 (The Medalist) to last Wednesday's Tour Championship. Her lowest finish was seventh in the 23-golfer field at Forest Akers, the fifth event in the series, after earning second place at The Medalist to open her series experience. Swartout claimed back-to-back-to-back titles beginning with the Longaberger event.
She worked through an opening-round 79 to shoot a final round of 75 and claim medalist honors. She carded 23 pars and four birdies during the two-round event that earned her 75.00 points. Next was the ninth event on the schedule at Meadows Golf Club on the campus of Grand Valley State. Swarout opened birdie-birdie en route to a 2-over par 74. She followed with a 4-over par 76 to capture her second-straight title. Swartout recorded 18 pars and six birdies, while playing the par 5's at 3-under par for the event.
Finally came the Tour Championship where Swartout held on for a one-shot lead over Katie Rogner after the first round, shooting 5-over par 77. She bettered her closest competitor by four strokes in the second and final round, carding a 4-over par 76, to complete the hat trick, giving her three series wins to finish out the series schedule. She earned 112.50 points for her third and final win, giving her a total of 327.50 points for the series.
Swartout was the 2007 Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year.
She is the first Bronco golfer to ever receive that award.
