MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State men's tennis squad -- ranked 75th nationally -- will head to the University of Kentucky to compete against 18th-ranked Florida State Saturday, May 14 in NCAA Regional competition. The match, which is tentatively scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., features the third-seeded Cardinals versus the second-seeded Seminoles. No. 1 seed Kentucky, ranked 11th nationally, will take on fourth-seeded Butler in the second match of the day. The final is slated for Sunday at approximately 1 p.m., with the winner advancing to the NCAA Round of 16.
"We were hoping to be close to home and to play the No. 2 seed," said head coach Bill Richards. "Lexington is a driveable distance for our families, friends and fans. It is a good scenario for our team, however, it will be a lofty test. Florida State is a great team and we are looking forward to a great match."
The 2005 Ball State men's tennis squad brings a 20-8 overall record into the tournament. The Cardinals captured their 18th regular-season Mid-American Conference Championship after posting a 5-0 mark in league action this spring. Last weekend, BSU won its 16th MAC Tournament Championship to earn its sixth NCAA appearance.
