MAC Announces Swimmers Of The Week

The Mid-American Conference announced it's Swimmers of the Week today.The awards went to Eastern Michigan's Michael Rowland (Connersville, Ind./Connersville) and Miami's Christen Fout (Shaker Hts.,Ohio/Hawken). Rowland swam three personal bests at the Hall of Champions Invitational, Feb. 17-19. Rowland was second in the 50 freestyle (21.20) and the 100 butterfly (50.97) while also winning the 100 freestyle in 47.10. He was also a member of the third-place 400 yard freestyle relay as well as two medley relays that made the top eight. Rowland was the high point swimmer at the meet amongst all the MAC participants.

Fout had two first-place finishes and one second-place finish at the eight-team House of Champions meet hosted by IUPUI, where Miami finished second. On the first day of competition, Fout finished second in the 200 IM by 1.15 seconds, contributing 17 of the 57 points she would earn in individual events. Also on the first day, the 400 Medley Relay team she was on finished fifth and earned 28 points. On day two, she won the 400 IM by .41 seconds in 4:40.80. On day three, she won the 200 Fly by .16 seconds in 2:10.13 and helped the 400 Free Relay team to a fourth-place finish and 30 points.

Other Men Nominated:
Brian O'Rourke, Miami, Jr., Beverly Hills, Mich. (Groves)
O'Rourke had two second-place finishes and a third-place finish to single-handedly contribute 50 of Miami's 277 points. As a part of three relay teams, he helped Miami to 108 more points as the team finished sixth at the House of Champions meet hosted by IUPUI. On the final day of competition, O'Rourke finished second in the 200 Fly by .44 seconds. On day two, O'Rourke finished second in the 200 Free by 1.62 seconds. His third-place finish came on the first day of competition in the 200 IM, finishing 1.93 seconds behind the winner.

Men's and women's teams will now head to the Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The women will travel to Athens, Ohio this weekend (Feb. 24-26), while the men will head to Oxford, Ohio on March 3-5.
