The Marshall University women's tennis team (#74) earned a number four seed and will travel to The University of Tennessee in Knoxville to take on the 14th ranked, and number one seeded, Lady Vols May 10 in the NCAA First Round, the ITA announced today.

"It's a very competitive competition, and every team has its work cut out for them," said Marshall head coach Laurie Mercer. "We need to remember to stay focused and committed to our goals and we'll see what happens at the end."

The 16 first round destinations were determined by the top 16 seeds. The remaining 48 at-large teams were ranked with Marshall being seeded. All 64 teams were looked at geographically, based on the 400-mile radius, to determine the group of 4 for all 16 sites. Conference match ups will be avoided for the first round only. Ohio State and Alabama join the Thundering Herd and the Vols in Knoxville.

Tennessee ended the season with an overall record of 17-9 and has two players in the ITA singles rankings and three duos in the doubles rankings. The is the first time Marshall's women's tennis team has reached the NCAA Tournament. Marshall, MAC Tournament Champions, ended the season with an overall record of 21-7.
