Bowling Green, Ohio--Bowling Green State University Director of Athletics Paul Krebs has announced the signing of men's basketball coach Dan Dakich to a new five-year contract retroactive to July 1. The new contract replaces Dakich's original five-year agreement to coach the Falcons.
"I believe Dan is very committed to Bowling Green as we are to him," said Krebs. "BGSU has been a very attractive place for people to establish long-term roots and we are continuing to position ourselves to be competitive. This is a reward for the outstanding job that Dan has done in helping the Falcons become one of the premiere programs in the MAC."
Dakich was named head coach of the men's basketball program on April 21, 1997. Last season, the Falcons won the MAC regular season title and had a 22-8 record. BGSU has posted a 40-18 record during the past two seasons. In addition, BGSU has posted the most league victories (26) since 1999.
"I am excited about the direction of the university and the athletic program under the leadership of Paul Krebs, (Vice President of Student Affairs) Dr. Ed Whipple and (President) Dr. Sidney Ribeau and I am looking forward to being a part of it in making our basketball program be the best it can be in all areas," said Dakich.
