Kent State's Arlette van Cleeff named Field Hockey Player of the Week

Arlette van Cleeff is this week's MAC Field Hockey Player of the Week. van Cleeff helped the Golden Flashes stay undefeated in conference play by scoring five goals this weekend in wins over Louisville and Miami. The freshman forward had a hat trick against Miami and then scored two goals against Louisville. She now leads the conference in goals scored (21) and is tied for first in points (48). Kent State has won all 12 games van Cleeff has played in this season.

OTHER NOMINATIONS FOR PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Amanda Eaby (Ohio, Forward, Fr., Ephrata, Pa.)
Scored three goals last week making the difference in two Ohio overtime victories, including the game-tying goal at 2:02 in the second half and the game-winner in overtime against Miami.

MAC FIELD HOCKEY NOTES

THE STRETCH RUN
With only two weeks left in MAC action, the MAC title could be decided this weekend. Central Michigan and Ohio are the only two teams that have a chance of catching Kent State for the MAC crown. Central Michigan will host both Ohio and Kent State this weekend. Kent State would have to lose at least three of their last four games to be eliminated.

BALL STATE
When Ball State hosts Kent State this weekend it will mark the ninth time out of 15 contests, the Cardinals have played a team that is currently ranked in the STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll or has been ranked in the poll at one point during the 2000 season.

CENTRAL MICHIGAN
This season marks the first time that Central Michigan has swept the season series from Ball State ... The Chippewas must beat both Ohio and Kent State this weekend to stay in contention for the MAC title.

LOUISVILLE
Louisville lost two games in a row last week for only the second time this season, while they have had winning streaks of four and three games. The Cardinals won two games in a row only once all of last season.

KENT STATE
Kent State has now won 12 straight games and 21 consecutive home games ... The Golden Flashes can clinch a MAC title with two wins ... Kent State has seven shutouts on the season, out-scoring their last 12 opponents 72-5.

MIAMI
Miami has been outshot 279-154 this season while being out-scored 54-24 ... The RedHawks will host #19 Michigan State in Oxford on October 21 ... Miami is 1-2 in overtime contests this season.

OHIO
Junior Ali Johnstone broke Gail Hudson's (1978-82) career assist record of 25 with two this weekend giving her 26 overall ... Ohio is 4-0 in overtime games this year ... Freshman Amanda Eaby has scored six goals on only 12 shots this season ... The Bobcats have won five games in a row ... Ohio is 4-1 on the new Ohio Turf Field.
