Pleiness Hits Game Winner for Central Michigan
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Chad Pleiness made a jump shot with 20 seconds left in overtime, and David Webber made a free throw at the last second, to give
Central Michigan a 73-71 win over Western Michigan on Monday night.
Webber scored 17 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Chippewas (9-4, 3-1 Mid-American). Central forced overtime when Chris Kaman
made a dunk in the final minute of regulation to make it 61-59, then scored on a layup with six seconds left to tie the score.
Central came out to a 20-10 lead in the game's first 12 minutes. The Broncos' Jon Powell made a lay-up and a pair of 3-pointers in a one-minute span. Taylor
Bro followed with a dunk to narrow the Chippewas' lead to 21-20.
Central led 31-26 at halftime. Western (2-13, 2-4) went on a 3 1/2-minute, 18-10 run to start the second half.
The teams traded the lead four more times before Steve Reynolds made a dunk and Powell made two free throws. That gave the Broncos their largest lead of the
game, 61-57 with 1:04 left. That's when Kaman stepped in to tie.
Pleiness finished with 15 points, and Kaman had a 14-point performance off the bench.
Reynolds ended with 26 points and had a game-high six turnovers. Powell scored 21, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range.
Cardinals Soar Past Northern Illinois, 85-59
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - Theron Smith had 25 points and Lonnie Jones added 17 points and 10 rebounds as Ball State beat Northern Illinois 85-59 on Monday.
Patrick Jackson added 13 points and Josh Murray scored 11 for the Cardinals (7-6, 2-2 Mid-American Conference).
Leon Rodgers led Northern Illinois (2-11, 1-3) with 19 points. Mike Brown added 17.
Northern Illinois opened a 5-4 lead on a layup by Stephen Jones and a 3-pointer by Brown.
But Jackson hit a 3-pointer at the 17:20 mark to put Ball State up 7-5. The Cardinals never trailed again.
Ball State led 38-30 at halftime by hitting 12-of-15 free throws. Northern Illinois went to the line just twice in the first half, with Rodgers hitting both free throws.
Matt Nelson hit a layup for Northern Illinois to open the second half, closing the gap to 38-32. But the Cardinals went on an 18-4 run over the next 5:10 to build a

Herd Tramples Eastern Michigan, 72-46
YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - Tamar Slay and Cornelius Jackson scored 18 points apiece, and J.R. VanHoose tallied 14 points and 12 rebounds, as Marshall beat
Eastern Michigan 72-46 on Monday night.
Marshall (10-3, 4-1 Mid-American) came out to a 17-5 lead in the game's first seven minutes, and never allowed the Eagles to regain control.
Eastern (2-11, 0-4) trailed 38-20 at halftime, then scored only one point in the first five minutes of the second half. The Thundering Herd increased their lead to
47-21 before Melvin Hicks scored with 14:53 remaining in an attempt to get the Eagles back in the game.
Marshall made 49.2 percent of its shots overall while holding Eastern to 34.8 percent shooting.
The Herd, which scored 18 points off the Eagles' 16 turnovers, led by as much as a 66-36 margin after VanHoose made a free throw with 7:12 on the clock.
Slay's effort brought his career scoring total to 1,006.
Hicks led Eastern with 17 points. Ryan Prillman scored 13 off the bench, and Tyson Radney added eight points along with his game-high 13 rebounds.
