MAC Player of the Week
Eastern Michigan's Simone Duhme (Sr., North Nowra, Australia) continued her strong play for EMU this week, going 2-0 at both No.3 singles and No.2 doubles to lead the Eagles to a pair of road wins, and remain undefeated in MAC duals. At BSU, Duhme teamed with Kendra Clark for an 8-4 win over Leisa Brooks and Jenny Batty and then pulled out an important three-set win over Abigail Hodge. She again teamed with Clark at BG, defeating Alyson Gabel and Gaby Coello, 8-4 and then dominated Susan Schoenberger, 6-3, 6-0. Duhme remains undefeated in MAC singles play at 6-0 and is 25-7 overall.
Ball State's Melissa Roach (So., Hull, England) went 2-0 at No.1 doubles plus 1-1 at No.1 singles as BSU split its two weekend matches. Roach combined with Abigail Hodge for an 8-5 win over EMU's No.1 doubles team Friday and then an 8-6 victory over UT's No.1 doubles tandem Saturday. She also scored a 4-6, 6-6, 7-5 victory over the Rocket's Vivana Rivera at No.1 singles.
Bowling Green's Gaby Coello (So. Guayquil, Ecuador) won both of her matches at No.5 singles last week, losing a total of just four games. She beat Toledo's Eve Szuch, 6-0, 6-1 as the Falcons downed UT, 5-2. Coello topped EMU's Kendra Clark, 6-1, 6-2. Coello also dropped a pair of matches at No.2 doubles. She is now 8-6 in singles this year.
Marshall's Ashley Kroh (Fr., Louisville, Ky.) finished the weekend 4-0 in singles and 3-1 in doubles. The only loss was suffered when she was defeated in doubles by Old dominion. She and teammate Jessica Johnson are ranked No.60 in the country in doubles. Overall she is 14-1 in singles and 15-4 in doubles.
Miami's Erica Echko (Sr., Dayton, Ohio) improved her MAC record to a perfect 5-0, including a 4-0 mark at No. 5 singles and a 1-0 record at the No.4 spot, with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Marshall's Joelle Good. Echko was the lone singles winner for the RedHawks in a 6-1 loss to Marshall.
Northern Illinois' Tanja Sukovic (Jr., Alsip, Ill.) went a perfect 4-0 for the second straight week of MAC competition. She has won five consecutive No.2 singles matches and is currently 5-1 in MAC action. Teamed with Karrie Tyioran at No.3 singles for a perfect 2-0 week. The Sukovic/Tyioran duo has won seven consecutive matches at No.3 doubles. She is currently 16-9 on the year and 17-7 in doubles.
Toledo's Natalya Natyshak (So., Windsor, Onterio) won her singles match at No.4 singles against Jenn Batty of BSU 7-6, 6-1. She also recorded a doubles win teamed with Whitney Wasielewski against BGSU.
Western Michigan's Larissa Chinwah (Sr., Sydney, Australia) posted a 4-0 record in two MAC wins last week. She teamed with Nikki Douglass to win the No.1 doubles match 8-1 over Karen Maynard and Shani Amarasinghe of Buffalo. She went on to beat Maynard in the No.1 singles match 6-3, 6-1. Then she teamed with Brookly Crews to win the No.2 doubles match over Arianna Rojas-Serpa and Diana Serafini 8-1 from Akron. Chinwah beat Irina Strembitsky of Akron in the No.1 singles match 6-1, 6-3. Strembitsky entered the match with an 11-1 record overall, 3-0 in the MAC.
