(Oct. 30) - The seeding for the women's soccer and field hockey tournaments were
decided Saturday, with Eastern Michigan recieving the number one seed in
soccer and Ball State receiving the number one seed in field hockey.
In the women's soccer tournament, Eastern Michigan will host Kent in a
quarterfinal match at Eastern Michigan. Kent beat out Toledo for the
eight spot in the tournament by winning the season series. Last year's
tournament champion, Northern Illinois is the seven seed and they will
travel to Central Michigan who won the two seed tie-breaker over Miami.
Miami will host Western Michigan, the seven seed. Ohio, the five seed
will travel to Buffalo who finshed as the four seed. All games will be
played Tuesday at 2 p.m. except for the Buffalo/Ohio match which will
begin at 4 p.m. The semifinals and championship will be played at the
field of the highest remaining seed after Tuesday's quarterfinals.
In field hockey, Kent and Ball State both share the MAC regular-season
title, but the Cardinals won the tie-breaker for the number one seed.
Ball State will also host the tournament this season as a pre-determined
site. The field hockey seeding is the exact same as it was last
season. Ball State and Kent will receive first round byes as the
highest seeds. Ohio is the number three seed and they will face
Louisville, the number six seed. The number four seed Central Michigan
will take on the number five seed Miami.
Both tournament champions have an automatic bid to their respective
NCAA tournaments.
