Howitt lost a dropped only one game in four wins last week. She beat Akron's Sara Hirschy, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and then combined with Meghan Rhodes in second doubles to defeat Akron, 8-0. Howitt combined with Rhodes again to defeat UB, 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. She then defeated Jennifer Wong of Buffalo, 6-0, 6-1, in fourth singles. Howitt has won her last six single matches.

Akron's Becky Schrager picked up a No. 1 singles win over Bowling Green's Abby Bolton 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Ball State's Libby Gerding was 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles against Buffalo and Akron. Gerding beat UB's Karen Maynard, 6-3, 6-0, and Akron's Becky Schrager, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. She also paired up with Melissa Roach and defeated the Bulls and the Zips, 8-0 each, in No. 1 doubles.

Buffalo's Karen Maynard is a sophomore for Buffalo.

Eastern Michigan's Rebecca Hawkins defeated Whitney Wasilewski of Toledo at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1. She then paired up with Lisa D'Amelio to beat Marie Craig and Marivi Cuartin, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles. Hawkins and D'Amelio are now 14-3 in doubles this season.

Marshall's Anna Mitina was a combined 5-1 last week, including 3-0 in No. 1 singles and 2-1 in doubles. Mitina defeated Larissa Chinway of Western Michigan, 6-3, 6-0.
