    Fairfield Tops Northern Illinois, 67-62

    DEKALB, Ill. (AP) - Jermaine Clark scored 15 points and Sam Spann added 14 points and 12 rebounds in leading Fairfield past Northern Illinois, 67-62, on Thursday (Dec. 28).

    Northern's Huskies (1-8) fell behind 19-5 but managed to trim the deficit to 27-23. They trailed 33-25 at halftime.

    The Stags (4-5) built a 53-49 lead in the second half, then saw the margin dwindle to 39-25. But they held on at the end by making their free throws, finishing 22-of-26 from the foul line.

    Northern Illinois turned the ball over 25 times and Fairfield made 25 points off those turnovers.

    Leon Rodgers had 21 points for the Huskies, while Mike Brown added 15 and Sean Ezell 10. Matt Nelson tied Spann for game-high honors with 12 rebounds as Northern outrebounded Fairfield 42-33.

    Jeremy Logan added 13 points for the Stags.


    Marshall Powers Past IUPU Fort Wayne, 99-70

    HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall ran its record to 6-1 with a 99-70 triumph over IUPU Ft. Wayne in a game originally scheduled for Dec. 18 but postponed at that time due to bad weather.

    The Thundering Herd, in winning its fifth consecutive contest, received a game high 26 points from J.R.VanHoose and 20 points from Joda Burgess. VanHoose also collected a game high 12 rebounds. Marshall guard Cornelius Jackson passed out 12 assists, boosting his career total to 412. IUPU Ft. Wayne was led in scoring by 20 points from Brad Noll.

    Marshall shot 58.5% (38-of-65) from the field and held a half-time lead of 47-31. The Herd's next game is Saturday night at home with a MAC opening encounter with the University at Buffalo. IUPU Ft. Wayne, who dropped to 4-8 on the season, plays Saturday at MAC member Ball State.
