The Mid-American Conference announced it's Men's Swimmer of the Week today. The award went to Ball State's Kurtis Leer, (Kendallville, IN/East Noble HS). Leer helped guide the Cardinals to a first-place finish in the Doug Coers Invitational by posting three individual victories and swimming in three relay wins. On the first day of competition Friday, Leer topped 31 competitors to score a first-place time of 21.46 in the 50 freestyle. He also swam the first leg of the top 200 Freestyle Relay (1:25.77) and the final leg of the first-place 400 Medley Relay (3:33.55). On the second day of competition Saturday, Leer continued to swim hard, scoring first place in both the 100 and 200 freestyle events with times of 46.85 and 1:43.24, respectively. Leer closed out the Invitational by guiding the Cardinals to first place in the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:12.35) as he swam the final leg of the final event of the meet.
Theo Kuczek, Freshman, Miami, Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield
Kuczek won his first two career events on Saturday against Xavier and IUPUI. He took the 50 Free in 21.70 and took the first 100 Breast race in which he has competed at Miami in 59.04. Miami defeated both schools. Kuczek's victory in the 100 Bresat was by 2.16 seconds over Xavier's Algis Aukstuolis, and he won by .13 seconds over Xavier's Daniel Milheim in the 50 Free.
