Kent State Leads After Round One Of Women's Golf Championship

INDIAN SPRINGS, Ohio - Day one of the Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship concluded on Friday with Kent State holding a 13-shot advantage over second place Ohio.

The Golden Flashes posted a MAC Championship record low team total of 287, with one player shooting in the 60's and four players carding rounds in the 70's. Kent State broke their previous low team mark of 289, which was shot in 2002 during the second round of action. Leading the way for KSU was Becky Wood, who shot 69 en route to ending the day in first-place. The round is the lowest ever shot in the first round of the tournament. Tara Delaney tied for the second-best round of the day, with a score of 71.

Sitting in second-place is Ohio. The Bobcats turned in a score of 300. Meredith Waterston paced Ohio with a total of 72 and currently sits in fourth place. Shanna Siefke also placed in the top-10 after day one, whose score of 75 puts her in a tie at ninth-place.

Ball State holds third-place after turning in a score of 303. Katie Sundberg is currently in a tie for fourth-place after shooting 72, while Carmen Bodine and Julie Harder are both tied for 11th-place with a first round total of 76.

In fourth-place is Western Michigan with a total of 304.Erin Thorne led the Broncos and is tied for seventh-place after firing a 74. Joining Thorne in the top-ten is teammate Jenna Walter, who posted a 75 and is tied in ninth-place.

Northern Illinois currently holds fifth-place with a score of 307. Jackie Bailey led the way for the Huskies with a score of 76. Lisa Bailey, Jamie Carney and Jackie Heslop all shot a score of 77.

Katie Myos score of 71 is good enough to put her in a tie for second-place after day one, en route to Toledo's sixth place finish on the day. The Rockets finished with a team total of 311.

Eastern Michigan sits in seventh-place with a team total of 319 after being paced by Katie Strawser's score of 78. Marshall is currently in eighth-place (323) and was paced by Allyson Hatcher, who is tied for 11th-place with a score of 76. Bowling Green recorded a team total of 325 and rounds out the field in ninth-place. Kari Liggert led the Falcons by posting a score of 78.
